What was wrong with new Morpheus?
Morpheus is supposed to be the wise man, a serious, stoic character who is a pillar of knowledge for Neo and others.
This version of Morpheus was comic relief, that scene of him and Neo in the Construct was maybe the worst scene in the entire series.
Wow. That’s disappointing.

lol yeah the new Matrix was bad. Every actor was bad in the movie, but I did like the new Smith, he was fun. I did not mind the plot because not sure how deep you can go nowadays on the subject.
However as much I was amazed by the fight scenes, the way everything was filmed and cut in the 1st Matrix, I dont know why this Matrix 4 was so poorly produced, really produced like a TV movie.
Only thing that make sense is that the Wachowski sisters did not want to make the movie and just botched the work.

True, I think the nostalgia from watching Neo and Trinity made them more palatable but their performances sucked to be honest. I rewatched the Matrix trilogy this past week and god, they just completely neutered Neo in the new movie, from beginning to end.
New Smith was probably the best, but still didn’t feel like he needed to be recasted. At least they didn’t botch that the way they botched new Morpheus 
The fight scenes were not special agreed, very plain with not much substance. I compare that to Neo and Trinity’s gunfight when they enter the building to rescue Morpheus in the first Matrix (IMO the best gunfight in film history), and it’s night and day. Just to be clear, the first Matrix IMO is the greatest science fiction/action film ever made, so Matrix Resurrections never had a shot at matching it, or the sequels for that matter.
But there was a lot of room for improvement, unfortunately. The plot had potential, but it was phoned in.

American Psycho. Really weird stuff. Christian Bale is amazing as Patrick Bateman, even if the movie is dated.

Hidden Figures. Very inspirational movie about three women who didn’t accept their circumstances and worked hard to achieve their dreams.

The Matrix Resurrection was awesome. People that don’t understand how awesome it is, have a lot of fear towards women and feel inferior towards the female species… AND can’t see the hidden, multi-layered depths of wisdom within the movie 
Also, often completely missing important key details that are in the movie, especially ones that are in plain sight, for example…

Summary
That was not Morpheus.
The real Morpheus died during a battle with the machines within the 60 years prior. The Morpheus in the movie is a digital construct, programmed by Neo in his guise as a game designer. Neo mixed some of his old nemesis, Agent Smith, into this construct, which is why Morpheus first shows up looking like an Agent and spouting Smith’s old lines.
I’m not even going to dignify that statement with a legitimate response.
This has nothing to do with my objections about how they ruined the character of Morpheus, by turning him into a comic relief character. The actor playing Morpheus was corny. This has nothing to do with the plot point that you bring up, it has everything to do with the characterization of digital-Morpheus.

It’s absolutely cringeworthy. I had to watch it 'cause I’m a huge Matrix fan, but the way they massacred my favorite character…smh.
