The Music Thread

From Hip-Hop to Shoegaze, that’s a radical change in music taste!

Right? Well, elementary to high school was 100% hip-hop for me… to quote Schoolly D I was like “I don’t like Rock n Roll”

Then, after some family tragedy and going to college… frankly hip-hop for me was less interesting… ironically, Eminem just was signed… but I needed more and Amazon was a couple years old and I researched everything there by reviews… I also went deeper into eastern religions and meditated a lot and shoegaze was my soma.

Shoegaze is awesome. I got into it heavily the past year and it speaks to my soul. Still trying to find newer artists, I really suck at finding new music. But Slowdive is my favorite by far. I feel like that’s everyone’s gateway though lol

I also really like artists that blend the shoegaze aspects with other genres. Do you like Boards of Canada? I feel like they blend shoegaze and hip hop in a way that’s pretty creative.

Was listening to this one the other day. One of my favorite uplifting hip hop tracks for when I’m feeling beat down by life.

Awesome!! And yes, Slowdive is my favorite band… I saw them live… last album… still powerful.

I do like boards of canada. I own everything they did. That’s IDM but there’s aspects of atmosphere in their music and you can just let go…

Burial is someone you might enjoy… that’s dubstep and has atmospheric beats…

I can get into a meditative state hearing any of this but shoegaze and slowdive the most… all the early 90s artists from that genre are worth checking like Ride “Nowhere.” I own too many… it was the music I was searching for but didn’t know existed! Music truly gets me high. Ha

Crazy thing is the same period of hip-hop that moved me… the same years I like best of indie music. Early 90s.
