Lots of discussion at work yesterday. The event held on Wednesday was in a new format, one that we will likely be using going forward. While the event was a success, there is plenty of room for improvement for next year, and I was able to impart my observations to the department director while it was still fresh.
I had to talk about the end of that shift a few times yesterday. During the unloading of leftovers, a warming cabinet fell on a coworker. It wasn’t the best connection with the dock loading plate and the truck loading plate, and as Catering Guy (CG) was starting to move the first warmer my brain hit a klaxon - “That shit is going to fall on him”.
Then it did. CG crumples under the warmer as it falls and he let out a sound like an injured dog. Juice (from ham and turkey stored inside) starts pouring out the back of the warmer onto the dockplate pick it up off him immediately and urge him to take a seat for a couple minutes. CG was kinda pissy about that comment for some reason, ignored it, and we proceeded to get the rest of the warming cabinets off the truck. I moved the rest off the truck however.
Director wanted to ask me about it, as we have a camera on the dock and he had seen the video. Catering Manager lady came over during the afternoon and thanked me for picking the warmer up off her (worker) guy. It was at that point I realized that CG had never thanked me the night before. I tossed that around in my head for a little bit. I didn’t think it rude, but an (acceptable) oversight, given he had just been flattened. Still, I was contemplating my response. Maybe I’ll leave it on him next time, should it happen again.
It was at that exact point in that mental monologue of mine that CG was walking by and made a detour to come over to me- and thank me for picking that cabinet offa him last night.
- One of the student workers told me I give “teen dad vibes”. Thanks, EmpD!
Today I woke up feeling beat. Body aches something fierce! Almost feels like covid. Unfortunately, another rest day for Rowvember. I’m at 150k for the month so far.
I’m getting out of work a hair early this evening to get home for the Tyson/Paul fight. I’m excited to see that.
