The greatest illusion–the greatest art form–(that I know) is a human being.
And don’t fool yourself, whether scientist or layperson, that you have understood this illusion simply because you can break it down and identify some of its parts; because you can parrot the term ‘subconscious mind’. That is almost nothing.
If you can identify and deconstruct light, a screen, a lens, and a projector, does this mean that you now truly understand the artistry and mastery of the 100 greatest films ever made? No, more likely it means you may be pretty good at destroying them or destroying the experience of them.
When you can create one of them, now something has begun.
Only when you can understand an illusion while it is yet active and alive can you claim to have seen through it.
Only when you can create and construct it, can it be said that you have even begun to explore the understanding of it.
In the meantime, I am taken in by these illusions; me and my fellow humans.
