That’s interesting, I’ve never got any of the number stuff until I started listening to subliminals. I have experienced strange occurrences in life, but never really considered the reason or I thought it was a sign from God.

Probalby the craziest experience for me was a few years ago when I was reading a Christian blog about asking God for signs. So I prayed to God and visualized 2 sparrows getting a drink of water outside at the same time as a “yes” answer. It’s a rare thing to see, but not impossible, so I thought it was a good choice. I then went to my window in the kitchen and saw that exact thing happen. Before I thought God caused that all, now leaning more about visualizations I consider it could have been those visualizations that had influence over it. Nothing at this level has happened to me again though.

But yes it never gets old for me too, gives me a feeling of childish wonder and I’m often thinking “thank you” after seeing it. I don’t know exactly who or what I’m thanking though haha. I always loved Hurley’s character in Lost because of his relation to those repeating lotto numbers that he had, was one of the most interesting backstories to me.

Its funny you say that because I’ve typically only seen the numbers 1 and 4. But now after listening to mind’s eye I have started to see 7 more often and still see 1 and 4. I was just reading that 7 typically means “we are on the right path” so is it related to mind’s eye because of manifestation I guess?

Both correct, in my opinion. Just different vantage points. Religious leaders, mystics, and philosophers produce so many words about the unknowable. Creates the illusion that we know something about it. What was meant to be a conceptual placeholder for the Mystery, ends up being seen as a representation of it. Oh well. :sunglasses:

Not to be critical but a lot of folks here look for meaning in various places and things. What if it doesn’t have any? What if it’s all just random chance or coincidence? Just a thought

Coincidences do not exist, every cause has an effect. By the way your last post was very obvious wasn’t it; why do on intelligent people get into the woo-woo stuff? Because they actually understand it, and just so you know everything can attain intelligence as it is consciousness.

Where everyone is at in life is an effect of his own causes.

The question you ask yourself is a reflection of your own internal belief system and shut the doors to many possibilities. You’ll only ever see that which you mind yourself to see. Now ask yourself what if every event is far from coincidence as coincidence is only divinely orchestrated synchronicity in congruence with thought.

Everything has to come from the inside out, not the other way around. I mean, there’s literally proof for every question you’ve asked on this topic. So if you want proof, go find proof but none is going to find it for you. And yet again that’s not going to change you because the day after you’ll be in disbelief again, it’ll be like this until you finally ‘live the truth’.

By the way, your before mentioned statement is a reflection of your own belief-system, life and reality as it is polarized.

Just some insights, hope it helps

Nothing wrong with thinking or speaking critically. In fact, it’s very much needed.

But…

In fact, that’s a meaning too. Random arbitrary chance. And it has its own worthwhile strengths. (For one thing, it opens up space for critical thinking to people who have become too bogged down in fatalism and passive fidelity to external ‘beliefs’.)

But it’s still a meaning.

There is no escape, as a human, from meaning. It is imposed from within as much as from without.

As an eye (or more accurately, an occipital lobe) will generate visual phenomena, a human mind will generate meaning.

But are those meanings somehow ‘true’? or ‘immutable’?

No. Not exactly.

The more that a mind attains energized awareness, the less that trite, predictable patterns will satisfy or seem to hold up in experience.

But for the conventional, ego-driven mind, life is actually quite predictable. It’s going to be motivated by self-interest, by the injunction to survive and reproduce, by small-minded views and motivations (e.g., revenge, maximizing power, leaving a legacy). There’s nothing wrong with those. But, they will be relatively easily predicted.

As we evolve and grow, we become less predictable. When an atom absorbs energy, its electrons can jump to more complex and less easily predicted configurations. This is a good metaphor for a mind that does the same.

Anyway, one of the valuable points from what you’ve said @James is that it is a protection from fatalism, uncritical superstition, and dogmatism. It’s important to hold ignorance close, to stay humble, and to keep observing and learning. :muscle:

@Malkuth That was the point. To engage in critical thinking. I would debate that you can escape from meaning by being nihilistic. Not saying I am although it I have been accused of it repeatedly

I legitimately tried nihilism for a while. I eventually concluded that, for a living being, it is impossible. All we can achieve is sham nihilism. (My own opinion, of course).

Our very biological processes are based on generativity. We are fundamentally creative.

In short: If a person creates a ‘nihilistic worldview’, then s/he has created something. And that (creation) is fundamentally non-nihilistic.

(And that’s just attacking the question from a conceptual standpoint. Haven’t even mentioned the fact that our very reason, intellect, thoughts, and perceptions themselves evolve from, develop within, and are supported by complex, living, interdependent systems, matrices, and elements.

It’s not that nihilism is impossible. It’s that it’s impossible for us. It’s like trying to draw a painting of non-painting.)

Great article,

Nihilism is often associated with concomitant anxiety of existence, depressive meaninglessness, or succumbing to hedonism absent other values,
But there certainly is a freedom in recognizing that the incredible constrictions of meaning ascribed to everything from what your mother said to you when 5 years old, to the panopticon judging of principles and deities of society falling away.

Nietzsche, mentioned in the article, actually did ascribe to a great deal of values and truths, he just chose them from the space of nihilism rather than accept what was given otherwise. So in addition to the relief of being meaningless, there is also an opportunity for real creativity in how one chooses what one believes-cause everyone’s always believing something, even if they think there not

The irony is that the accounts of the great existential philosopher, upon there final realization and conclusion is an experience extremely akin to spiritual mystics, Wittengstein (not really an existentialist )-Advata Vedenda, Camus -Flow-Daoism, even Buddhism in principles of action, and Kierkegaard the father of Existential essentially ends up back in faith of God lol

personally I believe a lot of crazy stuff but the only thing that really matters is a life well lived, fulfilling one’s potential (whatever that means to each individually), being of service to those and the world around you, and I take the active stance, as a creation, that everything I do matters and impacts people in ways beyond what I can imagine, and if it doesn’t who cares

@Azriel Thank you for your reply. Obviously off topic in regards to the purpose of this thread but I don’t see anything wrong with a healthy debate.

Exactly. I try not to believe anything, but to allow for many things.

I am an idiot who, at least in this incarnation, lives for 50 to 100 years in a universe that is, by current estimates aged at 14.4 billion years (and that’s only since the singular, ‘big-bang’ event, which for all we know has been repeated countless times).

To me, what the person in the article is discovering is not ‘nihilism’. I’d call what they are learning a type of ‘conceptual lever or technology’ rather than a genuine ontological statement. The person has embraced a view that allows him/her to grasp to his/her own perceptions less tightly. As for anything outside of the author’s own mind, basically nothing has been established. That’s the whole point.

It’s that apophatic orientation. Brilliant geniuses like Nietszche and others have articulated it. But when you boil it down, it’s basically a very confident assertion that ‘I don’t know’.

I agree whole-heartedly.

lol definitely off-topic in terms of the thread,
seemed relevant in terms of the current conversation.

I’ll make it relevant to the thread.
My use of Mind’s Eye has made understanding such concepts in philosophy easier
and experiencing what is described in these works, palpable and comprehensive, and certainly more enjoyable.

I found it highly relevant.

Hmm…I guess it depends what’s in your Mind’s Eye. The issues we’ve discussed are right in the middle of mine.

According to Evola, the only people other than Evola himself, he considers almost correct, when we consider the critique of the modern world and cultural nihilism, is Sartre and Nietzsche. And by my own addition, Kafka.

He claims Nietzsche is almost 100% correct, with one shortcoming, his idea around will to power, and the need to amplify certain aspects of the human condition such as, struggle, adversity, etc… Is only needed because of the continuing degeneration and zombification of reality that previous organizations are forcing onto our society.

The solution Evola presents is to not create the Ubermesnch, which represent the perfect individual, but to destroy decaying institutions and organizations and in the ashes you create the environment for strong individuals to create a truly modern and monument to the ancient needs that are basic to every individual.

Nihilism is caused not by the reality that god was killed/dead/imaginary, but the structures of society are still propped against an eroding hill and encroaching desert. But this approaching disaster only represents the internal philosophy of those living within the house, and they welcome it with happiness, drunken with power in a rigged game.

I am currently running StarkQ and testing out various ultimas as they come out. Beyond Limitless was yesterday when I saw this and tried Limit Destroyer the day before. Your first paragraph here has lots of characteristics to StarkQ so that is interesting too!
