Business wise I am a big fan of Kim K.
yes she is great and very attractive, alot of great things come from L.A like subliminal club that is where they are office, it made think of this show was my favorite
[DarkPhilosopher: I don’t see the point in posting an entire address in this conversation]
Speaking of painful movies to watch, Taxi Driver is incredible but wow, fucking miserable how accurate and relevant it is 50 years later.
For Spartan and Fitness titles listeners
With this many posts most of what I would have to say has probably already been said. Maybe I can name a few which haven’t been yet… let’s see…
As subliminal lovers, this one is interesting as it shows us the power our minds have. Write down how long it took you to figure out where the two cities are in relation to one another. Maybe even a theory about the third city…
This one really makes you think about at least one of the big questions of our existence:
The French rendition of the Count of Monte Cristo is true to the book and a great watch. The story itself of course, is about re-inventing oneself and often makes me think what I would do if subs suddenly completely changed my circumstances. In the end, does something like this change you or are you still the same person.
Either way, if you can find it (I imported the DVD + Book version) it is a great watch.
With Dune getting back its popularity (did you know MS Flight Simulator 2020 will get a Dune expansion where you can fly an Ornithopter over Arrakis?) I am reminded that of all the TV/movie productions there were only 2 I considered worth watching. Both mini-series, both relatively true to the books. It’s too bad they never made more, those books are hard to get through.
As far as the series probably already named:
12 Monkeys takes the story from the movie and goes nuts with it. Quite an… interesting view which all the way at the end ties in with the movie beautifully.
Burn Notice reminded me of MacGyver with its explanation of all the things you can do with common household items, and if there was ever an image of masculinity I wish the subs would turn me into it would be Michael Westen instead of James Bond. I mean, the way he wears a suit…
I still remember the episode where every time he snaps his fingers something explodes.
On the lighter side, I often wish I could be Castle, complete financial freedom, just doing what I love.
One of those series which left an emptiness when they were over.
Another light view and an interesting tie in with programming the subconscious which kind of make it belong here is Chuck:
And of course, it has Yvonne Strahovsky…
For a darker spin on programming the mind, there’s Dollhouse.
Never became a big hit, in part because people don’t like to be reminded of the fact that if we could, the rich and powerful would probably wipe people’s minds and turn them into (sex) slaves. It’s human nature. The second season got a bit post-apocalyptic after the technology got out and everybody started wiping and reprogramming everybody else, so it got a bit rushed, but was still interesting.
Taking a bit of a departure from series for one moment, if you haven’t seen Derren Brown’s Netflix specials, you should. In “Miracle” he does faith healing, in “The Push” he sees if he can convince ordinary people to commit murder and in Sacrifice he sees if he can make a racist want to take a bullet for someone he would normally hate.
I don’t know if they are still on Netflix.
Derren Brown is so incredibly good at manipulating and reading the mind it’s amazing to watch. And every once in a while, he explains how. Once again, if you are a student of the human mind and how we can make it do what we want, he’s a good watch.
Fringe was another one of those interesting concepts, digging into time and multiple dimensions. Got a bit difficult to watch near the end, but it did end up answering some questions and bring everything full circle.
I’ll throw in a minor mention of Continuum for its time travel concept.
Haven, another strange one, the idea of the Barn and what it is…
This one was also quite good, which I didn’t expect from what seemed just a common soap-turned-thriller.
And for something completely different, the TV rendition of a Series of Unfortunate Events was quite good and true to the books. If you just want something to watch, it is an interesting one.
An honorary mention to Murder She Wrote. A very old one, but I do miss that style of TV shows. What is particularly interesting about it is that you can see the invention and rise of modern technology. You can see during the show how she goes from a typewriter to a computer to being connected to the Internet, you can see the invention of the cell phone. Things like that and the stories written around it make it quite interesting. Also, it’s just nice to watch an episode now and then. No overarching storyline to remember, just separate stories. And I sometimes imagine what it would be like to just live in one of those small towns where it feels like there’s not a worry in the world.
I think they actually gave the fictional town of Cabot Cove an award for having the most murders per inhabitant in the US.
Person of Interest with its depiction of AI in a surveillance state makes the list for me, especially once they start showing the evolution of that AI and the introduction of another one.
Finally some honorary mentions to Alias, for its complicated story involving medieval history and twists upon twists leaving you dizzy, Brooklyn Nine-Nine simply for being itself, Eureka and Warehouse 13 as well as The Librarians for making me wonder what the world would be like if such things existed, Lost for keeping me longing for the next episode all the way up to that horrible ending, Once Upon a Time for managing to bring almost every fairy tale to life, even Elsa from Frozen, Spartacus for being so realistic they hired porn stars for sex scenes, Spooks for being one of the better spy-series out there. And I probably forgot a few.
I probably don’t need to name the usual suspects like Star Trek, Stargate, X-Files, Babylon, Battlestar, Farscape, Heroes, Game of Thrones, Gotham, Grimm, the Marvel series creating a story across 3 different publishers, Pretty Little Liars and probably a bunch more. Why PLL? Dunno, maybe I just have a crush on Lucy Hale. Or maybe I actually did like the twisting story.
Should I say something about the original Avatar series? I guess once I get people started on animated series it’ll be a whole 'nother thread.
And in the last but certainly not least in the series category, there are few series which truly broke my heart and made me cry. This was one of them, with a complicated but interesting storyline (spoilers).
So, who wants the movie category as well?
I have been obsessed with Spider Verse since the first one. And this one is actually better than the first one.
Always Sunny in Philadelphia. My Wife just got me into it
This one is a masterpiece of both writing and animation
Russian fantasy
Burn notice is really fun. I watched the whole serie, but the last episode ( ) Michael Westen is more MacGyver than James Bond and he is not really a womaniser.
I have been binge watching old Bond movies, and some similar old spy stuff. Which movie/serie/animation do you think have a Wanted Black vibe?
@RVconsultant I know you know your old movies (pre 1990s), any old ones that capture John Wingliss vibe? I found some old spies movies such as
I second North by Northwest. Tremendous movie.
Closest thing I can think of - perhaps the original “Thomas Crown Affair” with Steve McQueen.
