What is Mercury in Retrograde mean?

I’m curious as to what Mercury in retrograde means to all of you? I could look it up online but I’m more interested in the answers I will find here.

All I know about it is that it’s from Dec 13 till Jan 2.

Look forward to seeing some of the replies to this thread.

For me it seems like my electronics fuck off lol

They stop working properly.

Like right now a friend tried sharing a photo on Facebook messenger and it said media not available. Why? Okay?

Lol. I never heard of it before joining this forum. After some research Iit feels like there’s something to it.
Many things I’ve noticed could be explained otherwise.

  • I’m super horny, it’s blocking my thinking. Could be Mercury Retrograde, or 90 Days SR + RotWN.

  • I’m highly irritable. Could be New Emperor

  • Bought something online and it didn’t process the payment.

  • yesterday I slipped and fell down the stairs (no major injuries, just a blue toe and minor bruises)

So, not much to tell yet.

This is a somewhat divisive question and topic.

The concept of Mercury in retrograde:

It refers to those times of year in which, from the vantage point of our planet Earth, the relative motion of the planet Mercury appears to be in reverse.

If your car is on the highway among other cars, and you suddenly accelerate rapidly, the cars that were next to you will appear to be moving backwards.

At that moment, those cars are “in retrograde”.

So, that’s what the phrase refers to in literal astronomical terms.

That is not the divisive part. That’s just simple observational physics.

But the concept of ‘Mercury in retrograde’ is also based in astrological symbolism.

The divisive part is astrology itself.

Astrology belongs to the category of ‘paradigms and frameworks that are often interpreted and applied superstitiously in contemporary, modern settings’.

This may or may not be news, but for about the last 400 to 500 years, the world has been living in the Scientific era. Many concepts and ideas that were popular prior to that period have been disproven or abandoned. This has largely been a good thing. It’s a big part of why most people can live past the age of 50 for example. Which is pretty cool.

Yet many of those abandoned views and concepts continue to resonate. They’re often better, for example, at addressing the human hunger for meaning.

But are they ‘true’ or ‘untrue’, and if so, how much and why?

These are not simple questions, and honestly they’re unlikely to be conclusively settled on this discussion forum.

I don’t know howninterpret this correctly.
Either Saint and Fire are suspicious about Retrograde. Or they are suspicious about people believing in it.

We don’t base our business decisions on astrology. With the incident in question, I experienced a rash of weird technical breakdowns and mental blockages, which made me wary of releasing the title I was working on (I think it was Revelation of Spirit). And as I commonly say, we do not work on titles unless we’re in a completely clear state of mind.

Then, a colleague mentioned something about a Mercury Retrograde and to wait until it was over. As with many interesting coincidences, I mentioned it to a few people to get their perspective on it.

To answer @AlexanderGraves question – we are most certainly releasing products this month.

Interesting, I’ve definitely experienced less clear thinking/mental blockages the past week or so. Attributed it more to taking out RoM out of my stack, but wondering if that could have played a part.

Happy to know products are going to get released, my only question is whether EOG is a part of it or not.

All I know is this is absolute hell in an IT department at times. Stuff just breaks and communication gets worse. I can’t explain it. But everything in computers are 1s and 0s. Depending on your equipment it’s a blinky light going through a run of fiber optic cable for the network. Does one blinky light being off cause a giant cascading effect of chaos? Idk. Sure why not. My week has been pretty chaotic so far.

I don’t follow astro stuff, and don’t read the signs or believe that my life is led or guided by planets. But one day many years ago it was so funny. I was catching a train to work as usual, and I had to get another connecting one. Well, this particular day somehow (and for the life of me I don’t know how) I hopped on the second train, but it was the wrong one, going the wrong way. So ended up being late for work that morning, yet when I got in, I happened to glance at the star sign readings for the day that was open on a newspaper. And mine under Scorpio literally said, BE CAREFUL YOU DONT CATCH THE WRONG TRAIN TODAY. When I read that I almost fell out of my chair. So now do I think there is something to it, yes, but I am not going to base or revolve my life around it. Obviously, people talk about the moon and how it affects the tides, and we all know how crazy it often gets on full moons, and how busy emergency services and hospitals are with episodes. Since we are made of almost 70% water, is it such a stretch that this has some influence on us too?

How the moon affects tides has to do with the gravitational pull the moon has on Earth. The moon will still affect tides if the oceans were filled with any other liquid than water.

Legit funniest thing I’ve read today

Your reasoning here actually strengthens and supports the point that @Starman was making (because the water of which our bodies are composed is generally liberally mixed with other liquid substances).

Fortunately for you, that original point still does not by itself constitute very strong evidence for the legitimacy of astrology or astrological symbolism.

Most of the astronomical bodies referred to in astrology (Chiron, Neptune, and so on) are not close enough to Planet Earth to exert any obvious physical influences in the way that the Moon affects the tides.

If astrological processes and correspondences are valid and legitimate, that would probably not be by means of currently recognized physical mechanisms. It would more likely be the result of some processes that we have not yet theorized or identified.

Unquestioning faith in the current systems of explanation often goes together with less experience in working with and applying the current systems of explanation.

It’s just as easy, and common, to be superstitious in one’s belief in modern scientific concepts as it is to be superstitious about alternate explanatory frameworks and paradigms.

Apply skepticism in ALL directions.

In other words, a scientist is not one who “believes” in traditionally scientific-sounding ideas; a scientist is one who applies the scientific method (and who believes in the value of that method).

Similar to advanced spiritual and mystical practitioners, actual advanced scientists tend to be a lot less certain of things than are their followers and students.

My experience with Mercury Retro has been that in general there has been for me a high correlation of events typically associated with a Mercury retrograde period occurring during them. This is probably because my primary areas of work in the past have been in information tech as well as communication in general (think call centres). To try to summarize in a few bullet points:

  • It is typically not recommended to enter into contracts during a Mercury Retrograde period
  • If you do, check and triple check everything with a fine tooth comb.
  • Even if you are 1000% convinced that there’s nothing untoward, be prepared for and expect the unexpected, to find things after the retrograde period that you did not notice in your rush to get everything sorted during the retrograde. The kind of things about they say “the devil is in the details” that will make you wish you had waited.

As an example of this, during 2 Mercury retro periods just prior to COVID, I moved house, and both of these moves ended up being majorly bad decisions. One was a flamboyantly identified individual (and we’ll leave it at that) who had an incredible sense of smell which worked to my detriment. The second ended up using my rent money to buy drugs instead of giving it to the real landlord.

  • The general advice I have distilled is that during these periods it is best to act according to the expression “think with a hammer”, ie like a blacksmith. Refine your thinking and go slowly otherwise you will miss things, important things which come back to bite you later.
  • In the same way, people will often avoid saying things that are really important until after the period is over, because they are so inside their own head. It’s like communication is backed up, not just technically but in a human way.

You might rightly assume that often people deal with astrology in a superstitious way, which is correct because many people’s typical demeanour is to be shallow, vapid individuals who do not reflect deeply on things, and this ironically causes them to be more affected by Merc retro than those who do think with care. However this does not undermine the fact that you can make observations of activities occurring during a retrograde and notice some very compelling correlations, which should give pause for thought and caution in action.

“Millionaires don’t need astrology, billionaires do.”

-JP Morgan

It’s similar to how C sections are common in the royal families because then you can plan your child’s birth to coincide with certain highly advantageous traits. Numerology and master numbers.

I think it’s easy for the everyday person to scoff at things like astrology and numerology, but when you reach the true upper echelons of society: billionaires, royal families, old money generation wealth…etc I think it’s a “necessity”
