Maybe they’re setting up for a 2nd match.
lol I’ll pass
That was too boring
Mike doesn’t have it in him for a second match
The crowd definitely seemed to not be enjoying it
It really was more interesting, but they had an obsession with zooming in on her cut. I know Tyson is like 60, but his legs were just done. Could barely move.
It looks like Mike was fighting for the bag, not to kill.
I can’t believe I stayed up to watch an old man get beat up by a 27 year old……. Is my initial thought after watching this….”fight”
It wasn’t a fight, Mike wanted that $20+ million dollar bag for his kids.
It honestly felt like WWE. The “butt cheeks” bit, Logan Paul’s response to Tyson’s call out, Jake calling out Canelo. Same vibe as professional wrestling.
I’m betting that they’re all attempting to start a media company with these “boxing matches” with retired or aging fighters and running it like WWE.
I haven’t watched the actual fight yet.
But my take is, surprisingly, that I’m okay with it.
I think the idea was something like this:
"Look. We’re going to have a B grade fight. Not a B+. Not an A-. A ‘B’. "
“Having said that, let’s try to max the heck out of a B-grade fight. We’ll still have pre-fight training videos and highlights. A little light jabbing, insults, and back-and-forth. Let’s just get all the mileage that we can out of this, but the safest and best thing for everyone involved is to have a B-grade fight.”
Tyson is a 58 year old man who dominated the sport and grabbed the world heavyweight title 38 years ago.
He is still a titan. But an aging titan.
So the point of this fight basically comes down to:
What does an aging titan look like 36 years after his hey-day?
The answer: still pretty impressive, but in decline nonetheless.
What I respect about it though, is that Tyson is unafraid to show his version of aging and decline. He’s going to be bad-ass on the day he dies. But a lot of people, after having been the champion, wouldn’t have the balls to do anything that risked losing.
It just shows what we already know. Before anything else, even before being ‘the champion’, Tyson is a boxer. He’s a dude who loves the craft and lives by it.
Yeah, he’ll take the bag and the glory; that’s part of the gladiator game, after all.
But apart from that: This is what I do.
What can I say? I respect it.
And Paul seems to be trying to take s**t seriously.
He’s not someone who literally had to do this to survive. So his story is different from that of the classic boxing warrior. But he does have respect for the game. (Promotion has always been part of this game.) Paul just takes over part of the promotional duties instead of outsourcing them to somebody else.
Mike has been through it all. The highs and the lows.
And I’m surprised and pleased to find that this fight doesn’t really diminish him in my eyes at all.
(And…after starting to watch it.)
Boy this is hard to watch.
I feel like the ones who deserve a belt are the audience.
Boring fight, all that hype for nothing.
This pretty much sums it up. Who would’ve thought beating up senior citizens would be a lucrative grift?
What a time to be alive 🫠🫠
I mean I would step in the ring, make a spectacle and quick burn embarrassment of myself for 30 mil!
I would do it even for only 1 mil.
It’s not a scam if you knew ahead of time what you were paying for.
More of a kink, really.
In other words,
this:
This was a scam the first time it happened.
By the 317th time?
Chuck’s got a kink.
It was interesting to watch the two walk outs and how Tyson walked out alone.
The fight was lame
I am sorry for off topic, a quick question while you’re here:
My brother wants to put me in full control of the business (small cafe). I have to promote and develop the cafe, so he is able to open new sites. I am not listeninf to any of the wealth oriented titles now. My personal level doesn’t let me go with EOG, Emperor or something as heavy as Emperor. What should I choose in my situation? Mogul? NRich?
I have to disagree with that. He only fights aging and semi-retired MMA fighters that were known for their incredible skill. Thing is, people really do not realize how different a boxing match is from an MMA match, Paul was clearly trying to gain clout from “beating” them in a fighting format they weren’t used to.
When I fought, and I was obsessed with it, so I was sparring a lot, I always did terrible with pure boxing because my strength was always the karate kicks that I could use in the MMA format, namely the “side kick,” or “yoko geri.” My side kicks were so vicious and surgical that my coach banned me from using them because the predominantly Muay Thai fighters couldn’t deal with them due to the Thai fighting stance.
You put me in a pure boxing match and I would struggle much more, until later when I started studying Lomachenko’s footwork and started employing it.
Regardless, think about his fight with Anderson Silva or Woodley. If this was an MMA match, Silva would grappled his ass and tapped him within seconds. It’s telling that he doesn’t want to deal with BJJ, because it requires such incredible skill to actually win and it takes a by long time to learn. BJJ stylists become absolutely obsessed with their art and I’d be willing to bet that even a trained blue belt could take Jake Paul.
Solution? Bring them all over to a format that could trick the public into thinking you’re the superior fighter, since the public will think that the opponent’s MMA skills SHOULD translate from the Octagon to the boxing ring.
But they don’t. It’s just a different game. Furthermore, the fact that he had to call out Canelo and even say “Canelo needs me, I’m not giving him anything,” or whatever was absurd. Canelo is only 34, technically still in his prime. Paul had no chance of beating him. That was either a hype move, or foreshadowing for another wack fight. Well all watch it, though, and he’ll make millions.
What the hell was that match? If Tyson did this for the money, its different. But, was Tyson really slow cuz of age or he was just taking it slow? Couldn’t really understand that - can anyone comment?
