For years, I’ve found myself hella annoyed at pop-up ads. The kind where you’re reading an article, blog post or even a sales page. And it pops up, covering up the entire page.
I resolved years ago to never use those. Never have.
My friend (also a marketer) says I’m leaving money on the table hand-over-fist because pop-ups “work”.
People vary so much and admittedly I have a tendency to look at the world through my own personal lens. But when it comes to this kind of stuff you do have to wonder how many people am I driving off vs people genuinely not caring? Or like your friend said actually capitalizing off that strategy? I guess the intersection of personal beliefs and business decisions is a hard one to navigate.
This is a prime example of what I was just talking about, though. Pop ups do “work,” they generate lots of leads and sales. As an entrepreneur, you have to separate what you don’t like from what the people are asking for. If a popup converts well, that means the people who are clicking it WANTS to click on it, and you’re losing potential customers by applying personal preferences to a marketing campaign, which should be data driven.
Pop ups on sales pages are a no-no for me. But if I were making a content driven site where my main revenue model was via advertising – those popups would be there. Thus is the burden if you want to be an entrepreneur. Things that personally annoy you may not annoy others.
And this is why it’s so hard to make wealth subs. Most people only ever experience the side where they are being marketed to, they rarely get to see the marketing side, and when they want to become an entrepreneur or increase their wealth, they immediately start imposing their viewpoint as the “marketee” onto their business and end up failing miserably.
If you’re basing whether content is “balanced” based upon the thumbnail, you are missing out. You’re essentially writing off entire videos that COULD be amazing because they are trying to catch an individual’s eye. There’s a billion videos on YouTube, and the user is generally just scrolling through lists and lists of potential videos, and your perspective is that the content must be “unbalanced” if they put fancy colors or a bold image to catch your eye in a sea of thumbnails?
Shall we say the same about catchy book covers also?
The current wealth scripting works well in an individual who has already made up their mind to change their views. But wealth scripting has always run into a wall with the majority of people for the reasons I said above.
The New Wealth Experience will try to mitigate some of this, but at the end of the day a subliminal has no ability to force anyone to do anything and this is a fine example of that. You’ll still have to take action and be open to new things and perspectives.
We do only limited Exit intent. And in that we tell them to call if there’s any problem with the checkout.
Lots of older customers prefer the phone over filling the checkout form here.
We have 15% CR plus the calls and email orders that are not yet registered to our Shopify store.
It all depends on your customers. Best practices are good to test, but they are not the absolute truth. Everything needs to be tested and the decision made based on accurate data
I don’t know if I got my point across clearly. Eye catching or aesthetic thumbnails is fine, I would see that as an extension of personality. It would have to be tastefully done, like a catchy book cover. But some thumbnails out there would be the equivalent of “Read this book now!”. They’re too on the nose, lack identity, seem empty. I like seeing originality or innovation, when people just start doing the same thing other people do, using formulas, or excessively relying on templates you get lost in that sea of everyone else doing the same thing in my eyes.
And this is all my personal opinion. I’m not out here policing anyone on how to make their content. I’m also not a successful marketer or business owner so I’m not gonna claim what works or is successful because I know I haven’t got a clue.
Does that make any sense? Or am I just wrapping fancy words and sentences around a core limiting belief in terms of wealth? lol. The line between personal values you can utilize as a strength vs shoot yourself in the foot with isn’t clear, as evident in this very discussion on the topic.
Also @Trader is your MBTI INFP? This might be a common thing for types that lead with the Fi cognitive function.
It’s really just an observation of how your individual mind processes your environment. Unfortunately it’s now in the realm of Harry Potter houses and buzzfeed articles with wildly inaccurate assumptions in how it ties to personality.
If all high-performing Youtube videos follow a certain formula and it works, then does it make sense to do something that is unique for the sake of it being unique over something that just works?
Let’s imagine you find a Youtube thumbnail that is unique and clever. What would likely happen is that you’ll nod your head, say “Now that looks cool and original!” and scroll away to something that’s more formulaic that you will actually click on. Even if you do click on it, it’s quite likely that others won’t. If I was a Youtuber, I care more about growing my channel and having people see my content to get value from it rather than feel like I’m creative just for the sake of it.
A lot of thought and effort is put into making YouTube thumbnails so it’s not as formulaic as you may think. You will notice the top channels make over a dozen variations of a thumbnail with different titles ready before they launch their video. Once they launch their video, if the click-through rate is lacking they switch their thumbnail and/or title, sometimes several times to pick the best performing one. This is something you might notice yourself if you watch a video upon release then coming back to it having a different thumbnail and title.
Never sell something just because you want to sell it, or indeed, never advertise something simply in the way you want to advertise it.

I understand what you’re saying here. Analyzing if something works through trial and error I get, that’s really the only way to gauge this kind of stuff. Complacency I don’t. You can do what works and be unique. It isn’t an either or. Maybe I’ve misunderstood what you mean by “works”.
What I meant is if everyone continues to do “what works” eventually it’s all the same. Look at this company for example. Obviously there’s fundamentals in business and marketing knowledge, but the product itself breaks the mold. It’s not creativity for the ego gratification, but a genuine expression of self. I’m sure there are countless examples in history of people saying “you can’t do it like that”, if everyone listened there would be no innovation.
Last one then I’m gonna get off my soapbox and stop clogging up Saint’s journal.
@BlissAdventurer I really appreciate your input. WB, ROTN, and Libertine are three excellent subs that come to mind. I want to know if WB produces outcomes that are comparable to PSITU because this sub doesn’t allow you to sit down; instead, you are constantly pursuing your goals and the framework is already in place. Does WB include a comparable amount of script light speed dating info/existing etc. to increase the likelihood of sex, and secondly, because I’ve only recently begun to listen to WB, would it be best to combine it with DAY1: ZP WB + Libertine v2 and alternate days ROTN in order to observe quick results?
@RVconsultant really appreciate your input. I’ve begun to listen to WB, do you suggest i stack it this way or a better way? DAY1: ZP: WB + Libertine v2 and alternate days ROTN ONLY in order to observe quick results? or DAY 1: WB +ROTN rest DAY3: Libertine v2 only?
