Is it normal to want to learn how to code and hopefully become great at it but also get really depressed by it as well? Even more depressed for those of us already dealing with depression?
Depressed about what? Depends on the thought process.
I get down about it at times because I’ve never really been able to justify paying for actual training.
Self-taught. But the risk with being self-taught is I don’t know what I don’t know.
You didn’t elaborate on what you’re depressed about, however the following can be potential reasons for feeling that way:
-
Do you actually enjoy coding? Many people are attracted by the money, but if you don’t enjoy it then it’s always going to be an uphill battle finding the motivation to learn, and always be unfulfilling even if you do.
-
It’s a complex subject with a steep learning curve, with countless languages, frameworks etc, it can feel daunting trying to learn “enough”. It’s an issue in an industry that evolves and innovates as rapidly as this one. It’s something you’ll need to come to terms with or you’ll always feel overwhelmed.
-
In my experience some people can struggle in gaining a solid comprehension of programming. It’s nothing to do with intelligence, it just requires a different way of thinking that some people find difficult to attain.
Do any of those ring a bell?
Never think of a depression as a hindrance for your success, think of it as a motivation.
Focus on what you already got, “become great”, you’ll know because by the time you encode so much lines of code you will be amaze what you arrived.
Sometimes when I get bored I would play around with my code editor, check any updates, plug-ins, etc. I would run previous code that I find amazing.
I get discouraged there are lots of things to learn and assimilate and less time and opportunity.
