Planning on publishing a book and looking for stack advice

I’ve gotten more free time lately, and I’ve finally decided to write my own book. I’m currently using Ultimate Writer and it’s already increased the amount of words I’m writing per session, so I can say that the writing side of the equation is taken care of.

With that said, I’d like some ideas as to what other sub I could toss in to make the project as successful as possible. My first 2 ideas where EOG or Emperor, but I open to any other sub as long as it’s coherent with my goal of publishing my first book.

I would say Ultimate writer, RM or Stark, and …. Maybe genesis or EoG

When you say this, do you mean success in this project do you mean just writing the book or the other processes involved?

I’d say the entire process. The pure writing part should be taken care of by Ultimate Writer.

I’m also writing a book, albeit slowly… I’m averaging a little under 1 chapter (~3,500 words) a week at this point. I’m doing mine purely as a bucket list thing, and if I do publish, I’ll probably just put it on KDP because it’s fast and easy and there will be far less chance of someone $hitting on my story lol… from what I’ve read in my limited research, conventional publishing seems too fraught with restrictions and encumberments for my liking.
Are you thinking of the traditional publishing route? I’d love to hear more about the progress!

I’ll be going the self-publish route and selling my novel on Gumroad. They take a smaller cut than KDP, and the money flows in faster. I’ve been dabbling in writing for years so I’m really forcing my feet to the fire this time.

True Sell would pretty much cover it then.

That’s a good pace if you’re consistent. My problem has always been my lack of consistency in regard to sitting down and getting words on a page consistently. It’s been getting far easier with Ultimate Writer though, so I want to say that part is taken care of, even if I’m not where I want to be yet. My goal is to be able to write 10,000 words a day.

True sells definitely sounds like it will fit, though in terms of wealth, wouldn’t EOG be better? Emperor also came to mind since it’s a good general title that does a bit of everything.

Stark would probably be a better fit than Emperor because of the creativity and innovation angle plus the fame boosting. I mean in reality they all have something to offer.

That’s the thing, there really isn’t a bad choice. Some might be more effective for what I’m trying to do, but they’ll all help me out in some one way. The FOMO is real today. Ideally, I would have made a custom to handle all my needs but my finances are mid at the moment.

When I know what I’m writing, I’m consistent… the delays have been when I need to figure out how I want one part of the story to go. I didn’t want to half-ass it, so I’ve committed to 100,000 words, and a story spread across 3 books lol… (tongue planted FIRMLY in cheek here, I’m well aware that this is ambitious and that writing less than this is definitely not half-assing lol)
Figuring out how to weave together multiple characters and plotlines has been the challenge… not so much writing them, just deciding on where and how to start the arcs. I spent 2 weeks just trying to figure out how to introduce one of the characters, but then once I got that nailed down, I wrote the next 2 chapters within days.

!!! daaaaaaamn. That will be impressive.

I had that problem until I started writing outlines for my stories. The problem is that I have more outlines prepared than I do complete stories.

I’ve heard many authors say that the first book is the hardest to write. If you keep that in mind, there’s a logic to having a trilogy be your first big project.

The most words I’ve ever writen in a day is 5000, so have an idea of what 10,000 words in one session will look like. The problem is sticking to it everyday.

EoG is the best wealth sub here but it demands long term commitment if you don’t have any time constraint and are ready to commit for months for a single stage then surely go for it.

I’ve got an outline, a rather detailed one actually. If you’re familiar with the movie Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, there’s a scene where the CIA agents appear to be on the verge of raiding Hunt’s location, but when they breach the door, he’s actually elsewhere. That level of misdirection is something I’m applying to my story, but in the form of characters… there are 2 characters that the reader will be led to believe are the same person, until they meet, and the reader has to re-evaluate which character was in which scene, which will (hopefully) be a “whoa… I did NOT see that coming” interesting twist to the story.

I’ve got outlines for several more books after this one as well, haha.

I also couldn’t tell this story in just 1 book and still do it justice.

5k in a single day is damn impressive already, for what my humble opinion is worth.

I’m reading through the True Sell thread and it feels like an inception type event lol. I think I’ll end up picking it up for this stack. Depending on how it goes, I’ll pivot to something else for my next cycle.

Reading this made me think of one of Brandon Sanderson’s classes (from the ones he posted on Youtube during the pandemic.) in which he talks about the mission impossible type stories. I really recommend his content if you haven’t seen it yet.

Thank you, I’m a bit hard on myself at times so reading that means a lot to me.

I’m being sold on a copywriting subliminal through the copy of those that used the copywriting subliminal. What a find. :upside_down_face:

I haven’t, and a quick search didn’t turn up any likely candidates. If you happen to come across a link, I’d love to check it out though.
