Main Disc. Thread - Index Gate: Ultimate Programmer X

Yeah I understand, and I can develop why this is wrong on several levels but I don’t want to go into this kind of debate. Besides that doesn’t answer the question.

It is more like I don’t know all the tech specialities or niches. I just learned about Cybersec for example so maybe there are other niches that are interesting.

Summary

I know how to code on a basic level and already created small html/python apps. Pure dev like fullstack seems pretty boring.

@James the new limitless will be out very soon don’t forget to stack this with your indexgate.

why not to use QL?

Maybe because being a multiatger it is time consuming to go through.

What kind of projects would you be interested in working on? Or what would you like to create?

From there look at the salary ranges you’d like to target then figure how long it will take and what kind of training is needed.

Something fun would be to look at a list of Kurzweil’s predictions - make note of the ones that panned out and see what gets you excited. Keeping in mind he predicts AI will surpass human intelligence and master the Turing test by 2029.

Which in itself could make a lot of roles obsolete.

I don’t know all the tech specialities or niches either :slightly_smiling_face:

Also, regardless of the income you’re targeting there a lots of ways to make that outside of tech.

Transhumanists are a funny bunch. The Turing test doesn’t even take consciousness into account, which is arguably the defining feature of human intelligence- or any intelligence for that matter that is not simply a system designed to ape actual intelligent behaviour. All sensational claims usually come from AI startups or organisations that are interested in attracting investors- so when you read the fine print you’ll quickly find out how they have to adjust definitions to back up their claims- but make no mistake, there is practically no research into human consciousness. If you don’t understand it or cannot reduce it to mathematical formulae, how will you be able to replicate it? Psychologists and neuroscientists can’t even explain out of body experiences, visions in the absence of neural activity or even what human qualia are and where memories are “stored”. So what research does a silicon valley programmer build on?

What AI will make obsolete are the roles that were basically made for robots in the first place- which are many many jobs humans unfortunately have to do in this economy. All it tells us is that many jobs are so mechanical that they do not require human creativity to begin with- which is a sad thing to observe.

And go back a century, and note how the futurists back then noted how the industrial revolution and especially the rise of robots/machines would create a utopia where people would have to work less and less. Pretty much the opposite has occured!

I mean up to now, our scientific mythology (including our sci-fi movies) think that consciousness is not a real thing but a byproduct of “evolution”, if the later is true, an advanced enough AI would develop consciousness “automatically”. I mean that’s their theory. I love this.

And Ex Machina

The music geek?

Naw. Some conspiracy theorist nut job who goes on shows such as Joe Rogan.

He’s claiming that AI will be able to replicate humans by 2029. Within five years? Yeah right.

Not happening if ever
What these people seem to skip over is we barely understand our own brains let alone consciousness. No machine will be able to figure that out. Despite their SkyNet fantasies

Yeah, that is quite unfortunate. It’s a simple appeal to the idea of emergent property. Kind of insane how the one thing that we can actually say is self-evident becomes the tool with which we seek to deny its existence- to my knowledge this has not been a trend before the 19th century and is a unique Western European phenomenon. And it only works on paper if you use all the buzzwords like evolution and emergent property without going into the important details- it is amazing what kind of mental gymnastics you can find at the end of papers that struggle to take findings into account that go against this current narrative, “More research is needed” lol. AI is super useful for automating stuff and finding some things that would otherwise take ages to find, but transhumanists are not too different from your standard TV evangelist at this point.

I’m on the product management side and believe that good product people will be in demand. BUT a good product person has some technical knowledge, sales, marketing, communication, finance, analytics. Browse through Marty Cagan’s “Inspired” to get an ideea what a good product person does.

AI is not going to take over the world and threaten humanity its nonsense

So much rubbish on youtube “Sex robots are now real” “ChapGPT is becoming smarter and may threaten humanity” “Russians develop enhanced war robot”
