Internal Flexibility. Internal Receptivity. Internal Resourcefulness.
The internal realm is (in part) about evolving and Developing Identity through making connections of meaning. Integrating experiences into a meaningful structure.
Like one of those factory conveyor belts, experiential stimulus after experiential stimulus keeps rolling in: ‘How does this relate to what I am?’, ‘And what about this?’ ‘And what about this?’.
I. Encounter, II. Sense-Making/Meaning-Making, III. Integration
When it comes to internal change and experiences, you can embrace and integrate (which is similar to digesting food). You can reject. (Spitting the food out before it can digest). You can ignore and avoid. (Letting the food pass out and be eliminated with minimal processing; or never picking it up in the first place.)
It’s a perpetual life-process. Limited by our capacity for responsive integration. If things happen too fast, too intensely, if they’re too unpleasant, if they’re too far from ‘the norm’. We may struggle to integrate or not integrate at all.
But if we do integrate, then that which is integrated is now MEANINGFUL.
It becomes a part of your MEANING WORLD (your Identity) that can now be combined and inter-combined with all of the other parts of the meaningful world.
That’s a description of the process from the inside.
From the Outside, it just looks like you’re seeing a highly resourceful and agile person, who can connect to many elements without shutting down.
