I know a guy (personally, not over the Internet) that made millions in finances. But it didn’t make him happy. It was fun to do because he was good at it and he liked to try out his ideas and see them working. But he always knew it’s nothing longterm.
Then he started a company his heart is burning for. I don’t know if it makes more or less money. But he has about 60 employees right now, many of them he considers family.
He spends way more hours working than most people I know.
Thing is, he found his purpose. That’s why he always pulls through. Even after a huge shitstorm in the media earlier this year.
I’ve seen him. Crying about the false allegations. It was devastating to see this successful and strong man cry. But he got up again and kept fighting.
Why am I telling you this story? Because he told me one big truth about having money:
Money equals options
No more either or. Always both. No more can I afford this? Can I afford to care for old parents without reducing my income? No. He just got them the care they needed from professionals.
2 years ago, he bought a huge mansion in Central America. There he had one of the most emotional experiences ever (besides popping the question to his GF). He invited his old father to come for a visit. His father never even left his home county. But he came nevertheless. Standing at the pool, looking at the sunset, he started to cry. He had never seen his father cry before in his whole life. He asked what’s wrong. His father answered “It’s just so beautiful. I think I wanna die here”.
That’s the kind of freedom money + purpose can buy.
