Just curious, what do you guys do when you feel hopeless?

I oscillate between “I can do this” and “I’m screwed”.

I’ve got big dreams for myself, at the same time I have some days where just getting into the shower is difficult. And that’s a massive blow to my own self esteem. It’s like “yeah those dreams? You can’t even keep your damn apartment clean or follow through on one task”. It really doesn’t take a lot to knock me off of the tight rope I seem to walk, I’m trying to get better.

So how do you prop yourself up when you’re down? Looking for some ideas for myself so I’m not living in my echo chamber of a head.

It may not take a lot to knock you off of the tight rope. But it takes a whole hell of a lot to keep you off of it.

In the time I’ve been on here, must’ve seen you get back on 100 times. :muscle:t6:

So that too. Back to the thread.

oh, and this.

Having someone you can open to who is non judging and who can give some advices is good. Can be family, gym buddy or whatever. Otherwise understanding that whatever time you spend in this mood is temporary so picture that now feels like shit and you may or may not do something. Somehing that make you not be too hard on yourself and that it will get better even if a few years down the road. Crying, screaming journaling or other venting can be good.

Thanks man. It’s been easier to get back up lately which I’m thankful for.

  1. Get it out of your head.

• Journal

• Speak to a trusted friend.

• If your beliefs allow, talk to God (whatever It may be to you

  1. Look into stories of others with similar situations. Find success, believe in your own ability to mimic or exceed their success.

  2. Do just about anything creative

  3. Find a simple, achievable task you may have been avoiding, such as doing the dishes or scrubbing the walls of grime and dirt. Organize your living space.

  4. Clean out the trunk of your car and optimize the arrangement of your closet. You can tell a lot about a person’s mental and emotional state and their baggage with a casual glance into both of these things.

  5. Affirm your success in whatever it is and start small with it. Sure, subliminals do a lot. But not a day goes by that I’m not personally affirming my success in some sector. I see the difference if I don’t.

  6. This goes in line with #2, but talk to others a bit ‘further along’ than you in life, especially in that area. Two heads can at times be better than one. But, as I said in #1’s points, make sure you trust the person and their opinion.

  7. Exercise. Get into nature, even if it’s just touching your feet on a lawn of grass. This can feel uncomfortable at first if you’re used to the city life but I find it helps me.

  8. This may be obvious but it bears saying; go do something healthy that you enjoy and makes you feel alive. The only solution to getting rid of darkness, which is what hopelessness feels like, is casting light into the room, which is what joy is within our beings.

I hope something in this helped.

When I feel hopeless I just take time off until I feel better. Everyone here has given great advice. It is great being here at Sub Club and to know we all help out. I would like to tell you to hold on and don’t give up. We all have our bad days and sometimes we have to take some time off before we we can forge ahead. Be patient, ask questions and please keep us informed. You got this.

I had that today at work. I have a new job and today was double duty. So after I finished the new thing I went back to do my nightly job and for the first hour I was completely miserable.

I was considering just throwing in the towel for the night and finishing up tomorrow.

But all I did was keep moving and once I got into what I consider the home stretch I caught a second wind and finished the whole thing.

I even felt good about it because of how hopeless I was feeling for that first hour.

I’m supposed to be doing it in 3 hours total but between the two jobs and my first time doing it I got both jobs done in 4 hours. So it averages out to my best time of the week.
