How do i actually make money?

What do i actually have to do to make money? Its like every side hustle out there is over saturated and full of grifters trying to sell a course. Also an interesting fact around 55% of gen z and millenials have a side hustle.

Im asking because there is a course i really want to get into but it costs £3500 to get and i only have about £500

This is not true.

The fact that many people are doing something does not automatically make it over-saturated.

For an extreme example, consider ‘Breathing Oxygen’. That should definitely be over-saturated, since all 8 billion human beings, and also a much greater number of non-humans are doing that every day. And this practice has been going on for millions of years.

Thankfully, for the time being, there is enough circulating oxygen to sustain this.

What helps is this: You don’t need ALL of the oxygen, you just need enough to support your chosen lifestyle.

The same goes for money.

According to the 2023 stats, in the United States (not sure which country you’re in) there are currently ~33,185,550 small businesses. Some of them are main hustles. Some of them are side-hustles. Depends on the person(s) running it and also on how you define your terms. Are there opportunists and unethical practices among them? Of course. But that does not mean those things are the rule. Being very opportunistic or unethical tends to create a reputation that influences the kinds of business you can do and the kinds of people you can work with.

Look for what works and for what has a chance of working, and then don’t just think about it, try doing it.

You probably have a couple of ideas that you haven’t tried because you’re telling yourself, ‘That won’t work.’

Stop doing that and try a couple of them. Not the moon shot. Not the Hail Mary. Just a regular decent idea that you haven’t bothered trying yet.

Make this ‘trying things out’ thing a part of your lifestyle.

Treat it like dating. How many people would you have to date before you found someone you enjoyed spending time with? For that matter, here’s another question: How many steps would you have to take before you got from your home to a nice place to eat? Maybe you have a decent place 500 steps away. Maybe you have a decent place 5000 steps away (about 1.5 miles). If there’s a great restaurant that is 5000 steps away and you choose to walk there, after you have successfully arrived, does that mean that steps 1-4999 were all failures? Or were they actually taking you closer to your desired destination?

So, I’m saying, we’ve got to start walking. As you’re walking, also improve your knowledge of the various destinations. Find out about different places that might be worth walking to. But keep walking.

Don’t discourage yourself. Encourage yourself.

Sell something.

Typically, people are selling these: objects, services, attention, knowledge/information, and access (to spaces or other people). I may have missed one or two but those are the mains.

What do you want to sell?

Also, what problems do you love to solve or to fix? Or to try to solve or fix?

The great thing about the world is that for any one subject or thing that you love, there are others who would find that same subject/thing incredibly boring.

Usually people complain about that, but it’s actually an incredible gift. It means that when problems related to that subject/thing arise, those people do not want to deal with it. Thus, they might very likely be willing to pay you to deal with it.

Okay, so those are some points to get the ball rolling.

torrent the course and courses until you make money, or look on reddit for “group buys” where you can buy the courses for 25-50 bucks.

Just beware that any course about “helping business owners make money” is always going to involve selling them, so decide in advance that you’re ready to sharpen your sales skills and that’s what you want to get coached on. Saying this as a sales person who bought a course on helping business owners get leads.

You have to work hard, eliminate your shitty limiting beliefs like “oh boo hoo it’s saturated and i’m too young and everyone is doing it blah blah i’m just going to decide I’m not worthy of success and just go cry in my stockpile of welfare checks.”

no.

be delusional if you have to - david goggins was 300lbs and decided he was going to be a navy seal. Elon Musk planned the electric car, flight to mars, a solar powered economy, AND revolutionary batteries while in his 3rd year of university.

Put 100 successful people in the room, and you’ll find 100 people who knew they were failures and knew they could turn their life around.

Also. Lengthen your time horizon. Aim to make money now, but expect to not get results for a long time - even if you’re grinding your butt off. If you’re not grinding, expect it’ll never happen.

In the mean time, master your career path. It’s easier to start a business as a person in a successful job than a person in a retail/labor job. In the US, I’d say it’s usually easy to double your income by doubling your career skills, unless you’re already making 60K+ per year

Listen to Genesis Mogul + Love Bomb.
When our mind is at ease, at peace no matter what situation where in we always see an opportunity to make things different.
When you are passionate of doing something, it isn’t hard work, you do it because you love it.

After listening to the titles try roaming around the city or any place different, don’t give yourself reason to give up - just enjoy what you saw then everything will follow.

Pick 1 thing and become disgustingly good at it. If everything is oversaturated, then climb up and be better than most. The sky above is full of clouds until you get to a high enough altitude.

If it’s impossible to get to the top, then move to a place with clear skies. Pick a niche in that field that’s easier for you to be better at than most who are already there.

There are a lot of demand for people who are willing to put in the time & effort. Various opportunities for people who seek it tirelessly. The sky is bigger than you think.

I second this. I have used Mogul + LBFH before, they are really good at helping you find multiple opportunities to get more income, and you’ll have the freedom to choose whichever you want out of those opportunities.

True Sell is also good.

:point_right: Do a combination of both.

No one gets rich with side hustles. Those only create side incomes.
If you have a side hustle that you’re really good at, turn it into your main hustle.
In any field of work or business, there is an oversaturation of mediocre to average products or services. There is room for good products or services. There are not enough great products or services. Are you trying to be average, good or great?

Don’t buy courses. Network with people who are already doing what you want to do. That where you find the real info. Are you going to workshops, business meetings, networking events, conferences.

That’s crazy!!! If you don’t mind, can you share what course you’re talking about? For reasons that I won’t explain, I’m usually a great judge at knowing what a course is really worth or I often know someone who knows.

Figure out what people want and then sell them that

Or

Figure out what people don’t want to do and then specialize in that area

How do you acquire skills without investing in mentorship? The best courses are masterminds where you instantly get to simultaneously have access to the best info in the world on a topic, AND, access to the best people in the world at that topic, both students and teachers.

TBH when i hear a course is 3500 bucks, my first thought is “that sounds like shit, good courses are 7K+”

I may as well delurk again for this.

Why is 55% have side hustles interesting to you?

( You think it is people trying to get rich, the reality is people having to do this to get enough money for conspcious consumption, keeping up with the Jones’, modern society being pants).

Stuff about oxygen snipped.

Loads of things already work but the OP can’t afford to start them nor does he have the pull to overcome regulatory hurdles.

Also, the OP doesn’t have any good ideas, that’s what his post is about, most people don’t. So that doesn’t work either.

No, don’t. it will be available for free somewhere.

This is dangerously close to follow your passion and the money will come.

I’m passionate about sitting on a beach and drinking beer, I have yet to find someone to pay for such.

Again, WHAT thing, and how does he find it?

This is actually true, but not in the way you imply. (Some) employers are always on the lookout for hardworking, conciencious, industrious, intelligent people.

Which skills, how does he choose which?

Great for the guy selling them!!!

The subtext of his message is that he has no idea.

Well yes, but where does he start.

And how much have you or anyone else made from this?

OK, where does that leave us.

There is a trend on the 'net to ascertain that anyone can become a millionaire., Now, the thing about being a millionaire is if you try and save it up from a median wage you will never get there, yet the income it throws off is enough to replace the average wage but it isn’t even enough to buy a decent house in the capital. So the one thing that tells you is you have to do what others don’t do.

( I am going to assume you are a younger guy, of average intelligence who lives in the UK).

So what can you actually do now?

You can start to work hard. If you are in your twenties you can work 10 hours a day seven days a week but once you hit your mid thirties you will neither be able to or want to do this. So start working hard, do as much overtime as possible/go for promotion etc.

Next stage is to stop wasting money. As a young single man you can live for £100/week more or less anywhere in the Uk and save the rest. Move if necessary.

Great, now you are stacking some coin, and it is now that you can think about what you do in the future as you are now building a base.

So start thinking about business. Every time you pass business think about their model etc. Think about what people want to buy. Girls will buy beauty, ie makeup/dresses etc, guys will buy status and wealth, ie penis extension cars and get rich quick.

Lets take one of these, makeup, yeah you could scam them and most do and if you want to sell something that actually works, like collagen you can’t brand it or get a good enough mark up to start a business so what most do is add something else like goji berries etc but the goji berries do nothing but enhance your profits.

And lets be honest, business is not for everyone. In fact I would say most people are unsuited to growing a business because unless you grow it you will only be buying yourself a job. The difference is working in the business or working on the business. Also you have already admitted you don’t have any ideas for launching the next Bodyshop or Phones4U.

So if you will be working for someone else, this is where you have to be careful. If you want to climb the career ladder you need to work in a commercial organisation because that cuts down on political stuff as results count more and that’s where the real money is yet you also need to be of above average intelligence, nothing special 115 IQ is OK and you have to be honest with yourself here. Do you picture yourself being the big boss of AstraZeneca? Are you prepared to spend the next 40 years on call 24/7 because that’s what it takes.

OK so you don’t want millions but will settle for a techie job on 250/K + a year. Here you DO need to be properly intelligent, somewhat obsessed with the tech (and it helps to be somewhere on the spectrum as well). I know people who do rather interesting stuff with radar for Leonardo and somebody who won’t talk about his job at BT. And to be frank, people like this don’t work for money, do they. I also know someone who was turned down for a job at Xerox PARC so no guarantees even if you are really bright.

So what’s left is small business/independent contractor stuff.

Fancy being a window cleaner? A good windy can make 1k a week but very difficult to expand.

I know a PT making 6k a month but they spend a lot of time on the floor and to get anywhere they need to do a James Smith/Mindpump guys thing and they ain’t got it.

What about a sparky? You will need to train properly, C@G 2365 and AM2 (or whatever it is called nowadays) and you can contract for 35-40 K year . Add Inspection and testing (2396?) and that goes up to 50k+ rewiring peoples homes etc.

Now you may be feeling a bit overwhelmed at this point and somewhat disgruntled, how will I ever make a million? But I have just told you the best way. Small business/independent contracter being careful with money and saving is the best most guaranteed way for people to achieve it.

A rather well known book “The Millionaire Next Door” explains it.

To sum up, build your base and the mere fact that you ARE building a base will help concentrate your mind as to what direction to go.

Run Ascended Mogul for a couple of years as well. This will help you work harder and think better.

Good luck.

Every business is going AI, so if anyone wants to make no durably for the next many years, AI seems a no brainer. He can study Large Language Model (LLM) and data science and go get a job as an AI specialist at a company.

https://professionalonline2.mit.edu/no-code-artificial-intelligence-machine-learning-online-program

That would be a great starting point.
Average salaries are $ 99K - $ 200K
From there he can learn how to sell AI solutions to companies and make even more money.

@remarkable : This is a period in history where knowing which field to go in and make money is clear as day. The big question is does he want to do that?

Step 1. Gain a high paying skillset… Coding, Sales, Copywriting, Trading, Ecom, Content Editing, etc.

Step 2. Get really good at skillset

Step 3. Sell it as a service or get a job in that field

Lol. It’s legit so simple my man. None of this “side hustle, make XXX a day passively” bull. All of that is to get lazy people who want quick results who pay for those courses.

There is no such thing as a side hustle, it’s BS. And whats even more BS is saying ur side hustle will surpass your main hustle?

It’s either your willing to put in the hours and learn and get good at a skill, or your wasting time trying to hack the process. You just can’t.

There are so many broke ass people listening to this BS thinking money will manifest itself, thats not how this shit works.

The most alcoholic, low energy, coke degenerates make millions and lap these guys why?

Because they take action on their skillset and position themselves to sell it really well.

If it is that easy to say what job, then it is already oversaturated, requires you to already be an expert in it, or too specific of an advice for a random stranger on the internet who you don’t know the background of.

“Not in the way that you imply” what did you think i imply?

I’m not gonna explain myself because it is clear that you are needlessly framing most of the previous responses from everyone here as either negative or incomplete.

You think that you’ve given a thorough guide for the poster, but i can pick it apart just as easily as you did with others. The only way to settle the argument that you started is to do a thorough study on the poster’s life.

All i’m going to say is, the simple advice is the hardest to swallow, and you should think about what advice fit your unique circumstances before applying it.

Well yes.

However I have already mentioned the tech thing here:-

However, I do have to point out that you don’t need to be any good other than adequate to go into tech sales.

These are two separate assertions.

The first is logically incorrect, and my question to you is why are you limiting his options.

And the second is the actual point of his post. He already doesn’t know what to do. Therefore how can he decide what he is willing to actually do it?

Further on tech sales.

Sales is the best skill to have and sort of can be taught. But sales and tech have something in common, you need to be in the top 5% to get the big money and the best way to gauge this is do others tell you that you are indeed good. If our friend was really top notch in tech he would already be doing this as he would blast through his A levels gone to uni and already been through the hiring process at Google. I am going to take a massive stab in the dark and state the OP does not have three A-1’s in Maths , Further Maths and Physics, but I bet I am right. But not just tech sales any enterprise sales is great. A great way of getting rich and you can work for anyone with the added bonus that your mental well being will be improved as well as you don’t get annoyed so easily as the average person.

Yet what if the OP is not top 5% but just an average man on the Clapham Omnibus. Then that really isn’t an option. In which case building a base and small business contractor is likely to work.

“Members of the jury, I put it to you that this witness is simply telling a whole pack of lies”.
