Best way to challenge limiting beliefs about financial issues given strong tangible circumstances?

I’m making this post to crowdsource some ideas because I’m sinking into a pit that I know is gonna be a downward trajectory if I don’t fix it. I don’t really plan on adding anything to my current stack to solve this just a fyi.

I live in the US. I work in IT. Not in high demand with specialized skills but I’m competent. I’d say solid tier 3 and potentially able to pick up sys admin role if I can land one. This is my way of just making money to survive. I don’t want to upskill if I don’t have to. I am not liking the outlook of tech in the US. A lot of it has been outsourced, a lot of corruption, and a lot exploitation for profits. 10 years ago I could have stayed exactly where I am skill wise and lived off the wages given to me. Now it’s a fight and I’m made to feel that I did something wrong vs the goal posts being shifted on me and being gaslit. I should have been an entrepreneur , I should have gone into the trades, I should have learned more coding, I should have invested in the stock market, I should have bought a house, I should have been an influencer, etc. Everything BUT acknowledgement of the fact that there are individuals prioritizing greed over ethics.

Ranting aside. I look at it like this scenario. Considering pathways to manifestation, luck, defying adverse circumstances, etc. Could I overcome limiting beliefs to get what I need? Yes. But it feels a bit like standing in the middle of the highway, arms open, with a semi truck barreling towards me trying to manifest a circumstance to get this truck to swerve out of the way. Maybe with some luck a bird will die in flight, smash through the windshield and cause the truck to veer out of the way. Or maybe I could just step off the highway where I’m 100% guaranteed not to be hit by a semi. Does that make sense?

That’s where I’m at. I feel like a semi is coming. I feel like running subs to find little pathways of safety is a dangerous game. I want to know how other people feel about that. And also if anyone has any resources or books that they feel tackles these concepts. All I’ve run across are strategies 100% based in the constructed matrix or so head in the clouds you might as well be trying to manifest miracles to alter circumstances. There is a divergence of the inner and outer in my opinion. Everyone has an influence upon the world, so it’s not unreasonable to assume when a collective group of individuals are on the same wavelength so to speak that becomes a very tangible force to reconcile with. I’m not talking about conspiracy theories either, I mean the way ideas proliferate and people mimic others.

Also feel free to share any stories that are in opposition of this perspective. I’m looking outside of myself right now because it’s been a vortex of negativity for the past few months.

The two books I usually recommend for most situations are:

“The Slight Edge” by Jeff Olson
“One Small Step Can Change Your Life” by Robert Maurer, Ph.D.

I find it’s usually easiest to tackle the smallest/easiest part of a larger problem and then move on to the next part.

Like Matt Damon’s character in “The Martian” (I’ve not read the book yet)…solve one problem at a time.

Following the thread so I can see other ideas, too!

As someone who immediately shuts down when things look too big, that Maurer book looks very promising. Thanks!

I am not liking the outlook of most careers in the United States. We’re headed for a fourth industrial revolution, and it’s going to come sooner than people think. In my opinion, there is only one that anyone can do. You must either “upskill,” as you put it and figure out how to use the incoming revolution to determine where your career is going, or find a job in the trades where technology cannot easily touch.

I’m not exactly sure what you do in IT, but there’s still space for American human workers (as opposed to AI), you just have find a niche. Like IT for large law firms, who won’t be adopting AI any time soon due to it’s tendency to hallucinate and make things up. Or, IT for hospitals, who won’t be trusting AI as much due to privacy laws. Think outside of the box and look for microniches where you can still fit in. IT for NGOs who send people overseas in areas where they will need fast support from someone.

Tier 3 is actually considered pretty high, right? For the time being, companies will always need a human at the top making decisions, so maybe go into management?

Think practical, not metaphysical.

Just my two cents.

Trades have already gotten flooded from what I heard. It’s kind of like missing the boat on a really good stock trade, once everyone talks about it I think it’s too late. I guess I have to see what I can upskill into. It feels like a losing battle to me. Lets say I pivot into building AI to do more jobs AI can do. It’s only a matter of time before AI builds subordinate AI that takes that job too… It’s a revolution but my biggest fear is the laws and ethics surrounding AI is lagging behind A LOT. Meta got caught teaching their AI based on a pirated book repository that had terabytes of info that they torrented from inside their own network. Last I heard they just got a slap on the wrist.

I’ll have to explore that and see what’s out there. I tried management, it just wasn’t for me. It was mind numbingly boring for me, the meetings, the office politics, having to delegate tasks while my own tech skills faded away because I was too focused on spreadsheets and metrics. It was hell. I told myself never again.

I’m worried a lot. With the way things are going this is going to further strengthen the dehumanization of individuals and measure their worth by their output in society. Which will grow increasingly small and more will suffer because not everyone can be on the top. And that shouldn’t be a criteria for basic quality of life.

I hope someone else hops into this thread. I have the worst luck. By the time I got enough confidence to jump ship from my job (even though they terminated me) I jumped right into a terrible job market.

There’s never been too many plumbers. Trust me on that. AI isn’t going to unclogged drains. AI isn’t going to fix gutters either. If you get in the trades you can use AI to make your marketing and client acquisition super efficient and leave completion in the dust. Instead of thinking of AI as a threat, think of it as success partner.

We are created to choose the negative emotions rather than the positive ones. The evidence is right in-front of us.

The secret was that all the goodness can be experienced only on this higher level.

Some part of Dragon Reborn is really bad for me that I cannot count all the times I wanted to stop, I don’t know why I keep on going.

Being rich does not exempt you to suffering.

Wealth does not mean having lots of money. But having a wealthy mindset will separate you from scarcity.

Review what you wrote above and try to appreciate what you already have and stay focus on those areas only.

You have to be aware of your emotions, check the way you react and the way you response.

I have realize that titles are just label that make our name a little longer.

You have to appreciate and be full of gratitude to find that ‘success’ for you.

Never let external situation affect you or control you.

The idea that could transcend many difficulties might be to get on good terms with your subconscious and get help from that, as well as the forum.

What all programs have you bought over the years?

I have my own theory and believe the upper and middle class are going to be removed and will only leave the lower class, leaving the majority of people in need,i believe its being done on purpose and happening on a long term timeline, already happening in some countries, its happened before

@Fractal_Explorer

I get where you’re coming from. I’ve been in tech for nearly 28 years now and this is the most uncertainty I’ve felt about my career. Having said that, fear doesn’t help at all, and is probably the greatest limiter of manifesting new pathways.

In that 28 years I’ve been through some shit, but I never doubted my ability to find my feet and succeed. I took calculated risks, I changed jobs and industries, I emigrated to new countries multiple times (I’ve accrued 4 citizenships), and each step eventually led me to something better, as well as immense personal growth. I can honestly say many highly fortunate events have manifested in my life, and not from me trying, but by just allowing my life to flow where it needed to and not giving in to fear and resisting it.

I get that it can be scary, but there are also opportunities even in uncertain times. For example:

During the DotCom bust, the company I was working for went through 6 rounds of redundancies, but then was bought out by IBM, which led to a major promotion and a significantly higher salary.

During the Global Financial Crisis I was working for Lehman Brothers when they collapsed, setting off the whole shit show. But while thousands of IT staff were being laid off by banks every week, the company administering the Lehman collapse kept me on to work on new software for them to help collect and pay out Lehman assets. So I actually ended up having one of the safest jobs in a very turbulent period, and even got some nice pay rises and bonuses.

Right now I choose to live in the US, and things are indeed looking uncertain, and not just because of AI. Look at all the other stupid shit going on here right now. You know, those 4 citizenships actually allow me to choose from a whole bunch of other countries to live in (including EU countries, Australia, New Zealand, UK), but I choose to stay here (for now), because there are still a lot of opportunities here for those willing to look beyond their little box. The best thing you can do is keep yourself open to new and different opportunities, and to taking calculated risks - that’s how you allow things to manifest in your life.

But there are no guarantees here, so yes, prepare for the coming changes as best you can. I have.

I just realized today my HoT custom might be causing too much recon because of the Carpe Vitam and Harmonic Conflux modules. I’m going back to the standard title to see if that relieves it and helps me out a bit. Being pushed to do things results in a lot of anxiety coming up or any type of productivity focus. Similarly being too relaxed also causes anxiety for me. I think I built another problematic custom for myself because my expectations didn’t win out over how I’d really respond on a deeper level. And then the sunk cost fallacy of continuing to run it because I felt guilty about spending that money. Ugh.

I’m pretty locked in right now with my stack of HoT and Seductress. I can’t run 3 titles. Unless Seductress has enough physical shifting I can’t really justify dropping HoT since it has some very important goals for me in terms of my own well being.

Thank you. I think you touch on something I really struggle with. When fear shows up, it’s like I get tunnel vision. All other possibilities or avenues disappear, I lose my ability to be flexible. I focus on threats vs opportunities. I unconsciously lean into the very things that are going to hurt me.

Uncertainty is a huge trigger for me. A lot of things haven’t worked out in my life. It’s hard to hold that mindset that everything will turn out ok because I’ve never had confidence in my abilities beyond some surface level pep talks I’ve given myself. Like true solid trust in abilities is a completely foreign thing for me and I’ve just been trying to figure it all out as I go. I thought I had it in the past at some points, but it didn’t stick around. It’s been frustrating

Not sure those are going to be safe for much longer either lol. Check out the rundown.ai news letter, some of the things I’ve seen in the robotics space, are equally as astonishing to what we are seeing with AI.

I recently pivoted into selling A.I solutions, with the hopes of positioning myself into at least being able to get in the middle of the transactions that will take place, but with some of the AI sales bots that I’ve seen released, I’m not sure how safe even the sales profession is anymore :joy:

Every day I oscillate between am I being incredibly pessimistic about all this or am I seeing what’s coming and deeply afraid? There’s so much hype in AI, I do think we’re in a bubble. But that doesn’t negate the absolutely ridiculous advancements within the past few years and what it continues to build on.

China already has their dark factories there too. And they are arguably leaps and bounds ahead of the US so I see that as the future.

I forgot the exact statistic, but it virtually doubles it’s capabilities every few months or so. There was a really great article put out by a former employer of Open AI on his predictions over the next couple of years based on what he had seen internally, and the lack luster security measures in place that are pretty shocking. You can find the article on the newsletter I mentioned above (the rundown ai).

In my opinon, people are severely underestimating the magnitude of where things are at, based on their experience from what Chat GBT was a year or two ago and all the hype behind it. We’re already in a drastically different place, with tools like Manus which basicially functions as a full fledged employee for whatever you want to do, Gronk, Deep Seek, coding specifics tools, etc.

I agree with @SaintSovereign upskilling has always been vital, but it’s a non-negotiable now if you want to have a job in 5 years. Learn how to prompt really well, take courses, get involved in social media around AI, or entrepreneurial projects or companies to position yourself for the future. I’ve really dove in the past couple months, and I’ve actually found it to be really exciting, and resparked a lot of my genuine curiosity for learning. There’s more opportunity then their ever has been, it’s easier to accomplish then ever, but you do need to get in on the wave.

I would also pivot out of IT, as from what I understand low to moderate level IT will be replaced sooner rather then later, with even the most advanced coder’s in the world are on pace to being replaced in the next couple of years.

Understand that this is the case for most people. A lot of things haven’t worked out for me either, but I don’t let those define my life. I’ve mostly forgotten about them.

This isn’t what I said. That’s just some fairy tale nonsense. A lot of the time things don’t turn out ok. Accepting that is important. But even if it doesn’t turn out ok your life doesn’t stop there. Well, unless you’re dead, obviously, in which case there’s nothing more to worry about. And if you’re not dead then you still have the opportunity to adapt and grow in a new direction.

This is what I was referring to. It sounded like you had an internal sense of trust in yourself.

Sure, but part of that is accepting that sometimes shit happens. And when it does, accepting that you need to adapt, sometimes drastically. Sometimes things work out, sometimes they don’t. :man_shrugging:

I think you’re holding on too tightly to what you have now, as inadequate as it is (or sounds, from your description), and you can’t see beyond this little box you’ve created for yourself. I can’t really help with that, other than to point out the box isn’t real. None of it is - current skillset, job, industry, town, state, country, family situation, relationships, perceived strengths, perceived weaknesses etc. None of that is truly fixed, you can change all of it if you want.

I’m just pointing out some individuals have inherent characteristics or traits that make them more adaptable and it’s easy to overlook that if you lived with it your entire life. I’m not saying it’s fixed, but it’s a different jumping off point that presents challenges for some individuals.
