I agree 100000% every word he said. He’s right.
You’re probably just misunderstanding what he’s trying to say because he doesn’t spend a hour going into details.
I get what he’s getting at in that we are ultimately the most authentic with ourselves (we’re the only ones privy to our thoughts and feelings at any given time), but that clip is missing out on some important nuance:
Authenticity is a spectrum. In general, our favorite people in the world are those we can be more honest (hence authentic) with.
In the case of interacting with people we aren’t familiar with, some put on a mask of openness. These people are different than those with a higher capacity to accept reality as it is at any given moment.
The video was speaking more on the former group than the (rarer) latter.
As social beings, we are meant to interact and our action are influence with our environment.
We can’t be original because we learned those ‘acts’ maybe from our parents or neighbors, so keep on doing it sometimes for a lifetime.
You got manipulated, lol.
There’s purposefully not enough context or nuance in that clip, so that it can emotionally bait people, create engagement, and ramp up the algorithm. It’s designed to provoke.
Authenticity is a universal buzz word (especially in a narcissistic society obsessed with and insecure about their self-image) that means different things to different people, so if you say that it’s a myth or bullshit, then you’re guaranteed to cause dissonance and stimulate engagement.
It’s the equivalent of tossing a live hand grenade into a room full of personal interpretations. That’s why the entire comments section for the clip on YouTube and Instagram are full of people debating definitions of authenticity, while failing to realize that they’ve been intentionally manipulated to give their time and energy.
I’m heavily into the social media space, and I see this all the time in different forms.
Get baited hahaha
( I got baited too )
