Fuck me sideways but they are both pathetic and needy. Alright, I am being slightly unfair, a number of the more normal inmates simply get their heads down and do their time and find ways to pass the hours of boredom when they have the shorter sentences. Others, with life etc, really do get institutionalised. The problems are the younger frequent flyer types with nothing outside who try to pretend they are hard when the reality is they are pathetic little twats.
Guv, I’ve cut myself, but please don’t bring the nurse to the cell because I’m embarrassed, etc, etc.
Having said that, the china flu has been a very useful experiment as free association was scrapped. This caused self harm, fights etc to drop by a good 50% as prisoners feel safer inside their own cells and have less exposure to their peers.
Who’d a thunk it, not even criminals want to mix with criminals, eh.
This is such a big drop that even the govt and civil servants will take notice and ignore the calls of the bleeding heart do gooders that we are infringing the prisoners human rights.
The female estate is somewhat different as the inmates are even needier and act like toddlers and take things to heart but having said that are much more compliant and follow the rules and lets be honest are a lot cleaner and don’t smell.
Another problem we face is that we will never turn anyone away and will take anyone and everyone even those who clearly belong in a secure mental hospital but are so disruptive that the hospital can’t handle them. Others simply have a problem with the real world like the 79 year old woman who we had to physically escort back to her home as she couldn’t handle public transport or the autistic guy with the mentality of a 10 year old who hung round the gatehouse after his release until we forced social services to come and collect him.
Management leaves a lot to be desired as well, a lot who come up thru the ranks have brilliant social skills but not brilliant organisational skills. Having said that, if the director found his way to my house block he would obviously be lost and would need a map to get back to his office.
Before anyone asks, Yes I have already thought about using subs on the inmates but simply can’t find a way to do so.
I am getting out of my own head and speaking to other people so part of my plan is clearly working for me. I may try Wanted as I can already get compliance but I want them to give compliance because they want to not because they must. Some of the staff are a bit of a rum bunch with gossip of who’s fucking who, its like being back at college. The training is a mixed bag but a lot of it is simply to get you to go from being a civilian to professional at the job. After all, normal people never get to go into a prison, do they. I have already experienced in other jobs others taking my commands and women standing next to me and just casually dropping into the conversation that they are single so thats all par for the course.
Pain compliance works, and one last thought, phrenology is real.
