Men have hobbies, women don’t.

I stand by this statement.

It is a generality.

The ONS survey pointed out men spend twice as much time as women on hobbies and for socialising this was reversed.

But ask yourself this. When men have hobbies they can get obsessed, hence the phenomenon of bird watching, stamp collecting, train spotting or indeed my two hobbies. But when women have hobbies do they do it in the same way as men OR is the hobby merely a vehicle for yet more socialising?

Well you dont know how to read a survey my friend

You do have a point there. When women have hobbies, they usually do it in groups. Like knitting circles, book clubs, etc

I guess their interest in people does sway them towards such activities.

Men are over 6 feet tall, women aren’t.

I stand by that statement, completely ignoring all men under 6 feet tall and all women over 6 feet tall.

Because even though I write my statement as an absolute that leaves no ambiguity, the generalization here is implied. Fortunately on the Internet, where nobody can read non-verbal communication, it is not at all important to communicate clearly and leave as little ambiguity as possible. So no risk of anybody reaching the wrong conclusion based on my statement. Phew!

What I find interesting is that women seem to do less or equal of just about everything:

Yes, hobbies and computing stands out (which is not entirely unsurprising although the younger generations are definitely getting more gamer girls, especially on mobiles), but apart from socializing which doesn’t appear to be near that “twice as much” they seem to be doing less of everything.

So does their time go into work? Study? Chores? Are they sneakily taking advantage of men slacking off and surpassing us on everything of any importance?

And I do think men hold the monopoly on solitary hobbies.

This is a very strange view of a women’s no hobbies.

“A hobby is considered to be a regular activity that is done for enjoyment, typically during one’s leisure time.”
“Leisure has often been defined as a quality of experience or as free time.”
Free time.

What about all the women that you can see in various activities in their free time like in a gym, swimming pool, doing Crossfit, Yoga, reading books in their homes, making art, dancing classes and classes of a various subject in general.

If I were a woman and if you told me that women have no hobbies, I would probably get up and leave immediately.

I think it is relatively safe to say that very few people think of Crossfit as a hobby.

Yoga is an interesting one. Definitely more women in that one, since (here it comes) women are flexible, men aren’t.

It’s actually kind of satisfying making statements in that style.

And reading. Is that a hobby? Did they have an option for study activities in their survey?

Did they even have an even number of men and women of similar age groups? I’ll go and check…

So, painting is under hobbies. Age groups are covered, we’ll have to assume they took even numbers of each sex.

Pfff ! It is just BS the idea that women have no hobbies ! Just look at the idea of the survey. According to this survey, men spend much much more time playing video games than women ! So ok, they play when their wiwes cook, wash the dishes or the clothes

It depends. For one, the studies it is based on took place between 2005 and 2017. During that time it is relatively safe to say most gamers were men. Women did some Wiifit and things that use movement, but they rarely sat on their behind for hours, headset on and controller in their hands.

Even today, while there are more female gamers, they tend to prefer the simpler mobile games over the consoles. And the question is if they consider that gaming or taking a short break.

So yeah, I feel I’m not incorrect in stating that there are still more male gamers compared to female gamers.

As for other hobbies, if we take into account that women prefer hobbies as group activities, they can’t do them every moment of the day. Those are scheduled.

I’d be curious about the results if they asked all women right before COVID hit if they could divide their time socializing between in-person and using social media. And compared that (as well as total time) with that of the men.

Anyway, I’ll leave it to remarkable to properly respond to you.

I think you have a valid point, but it’s post facto. In other words, it has more to do with how femininity and masculinity are constructed and socially enforced than with some essential nature of women.

Kind of like saying that ‘most people in prison aren’t passionately devoted to etiquette classes’.

The social pressures and realities that exist in the context of prison militate against placing a very high priority on etiquette and social niceties. But the same person in a different context might be very much into it.

Women can have hobbies but they are likely to pay a higher social cost if they prioritize them or indulge in them as much as the average man might.

It’s also true that compared to men, women tend to possess more interpersonal genius. Dominant cultural values also reinforce this tendency, rewarding women who conform to it and punishing women who deviate from it.

This is the nature of social norms. The main thing they prove is just themselves.

In other words, the existence of a particular social norm basically only proves that there is an existing social norm.

This is because there are so many diverse and often arbitrary forces involved in generating and shaping social norms.

Hey man, I see you’ve had some success with ******* ******** subs.

I had used ********** last year and made some money with that.

what was your experience with Manifest Women exactly? thinking of buying that
Were you satisfied with the product?

Have you used other sub products while using subclub?

Thanks

@Prome.

I don’t know the person you referred to above.

I have never used their “get money” product (I assume its a product).

I make money the conventional way , long term growth and value investing, both in the stock market and my own businesses. I also sell my knowledge.

Before I used sub club I did use two of a competitors products, the free alpha product to see if it worked and the manifest women product with I had some results with but not much.

After I stopped with these I started with subclub.

All the data from game companies indicates this to be true.

Yes, they are scheduled because the focus is getting together with friends not the actual hobby itself.

That would be illuminating.

I won’t be responding to Avengers68 as they are not moving the debate on.

Well yes, but who defines these cultural mores, other women.

This is a bad analogy, or perhaps you have never been to prison.

I fully understand what you are saying and whilst it is true that genteel tea party, elevating ones pinky finger whilst sipping social norms are not enforced, other social norms are. Both by the inmates and the screws.

Good discussion, people.

Which is why straying off topic is to be encouraged.

I’m intrigued and skeptical. Please elaborate. You’re right; thank Hannah, I’ve never been to prison. And creating an inaccurate analogy would be a small price to pay for staying out of there.

So, how is the analogy off? Are you saying that in prison settings people are very concerned about table settings and raised pinky fingers?

Or did you think I was implying that there are no social norms in prison? Because I’m not. My point is the precise opposite. I’m simply saying that social norms that encourage delicateness, refinement, and fragility would be at odds with the norms more likely to commonly exist in most prison settings. As a result, a person who might love to have a life filled with delicateness and gentleness might not be so open with those tendencies in a prison setting.

In other words, social norms exist wherever there are at least 2 or 3 people. But the specific content of those norms matters a great deal as far as influencing the behaviors that you’re going to observe in a given setting.

The cultural mores and social norms around gender, masculinity, femininity, and beyond are generated collectively in the crucible of social interaction and are influenced and defined by everyone, whether intentionally or not.

In the same way, every single body who steps aboard a boat influences how that craft sits in and steers through the water, whether or not the person happens to be wielding an oar or steering at the prow.

That’s the nature of social norms and cultural mores.

or to put it succinctly:

It’s much easier to predict outcomes when the game is rigged.

and

Social norms rig the game of human behavior.

Just got back from getting groceries. Saw 2 instances of guys with tank tops and backwards baseball caps with cute gf’s. One guy was auschwich skinny, the other was built but not a body builder. Heavy set but not fat. Anyhow here’s me like a moron in my “style”. I swear women don’t care about good style, they like the “jobless highschool boy” look.

Because women care about guys that talk to them and do things with them other than sex.

If all you want is a something for sex then the hot ones have got better options than you are presenting.

But if you’ve have made your bed, you also get to sleep on it.

What happens you are used for their fun but have sex with another guy. So you are for entertainment and the other alpha guy that can’t provide entertainment but can satisfy her sexual needs directly?

You present as both a man who fucks and also will provide fun (after she has dropped her knickers) and not just be a dancing monkey.

Hi @Malkuth

I had a house built that I have yet to visit, I have toothache yet am finding it hard to locate a dentist and I have closed two startups, all due to the chinese flu situation.

Yet life goes on, others have it worse than me.

On the subs front I am continuing with Emp and RICH, twice a week each and three rest days and Emp goes on to help keep me active.

Thanks for asking, how are you doing?

All told, sounds solid. I like the house-building news. Yup. Emperor’s definitely doing what it’s supposed to do for you. Hope your toothache situation gets resolved soon. And yes, I can understand that the current economic/social climate can wreak havoc with business projects.

Hmm… how am I? I’m having a bunch of summer meetings. Another one coming up in 15 minutes. With subliminals, I’ve recently integrated Dragon Reborn into the stack. So, am figuring that out. Want to get my life to a more intentional place. Family’s okay.

Hadn’t seen you for a bit. Glad you’re okay.
