So is it okay if I play ultrasonic on my phone and keep it next to me?

That makes complete sense now.
One solution comes to mind immediately. Investing in a pair of headphones that allow you to hear all ambient, environmental noise. Like open-back, over-the-ear headphones. Then you could just play ultrasonics at a normal-to-low volume.
I haven’t researched it, so it’s just an idea at the moment.

Another one is to wear studio cans to listen to your work laptop (if that’s not prohibitively weird in your office situation). Then you can stick small earbuds under those. A little awkward, but it would be worth it.
