Ultima on a crap headset

@SaintSovereign @Fire @DarkPhilosopher

If I listen to Ultimas on a crappy headset while talking to customers, and the headset is incapable of doing ultra frequencies, will that be a case of “better than nothing” or will it be a case of “better not done at all”?

I’d suggest earbuds under the headset, if you can. I do that at my desk sometimes… except it’s the other way around for me - business calls on the earbuds, and VLC on my Sony headphones, when possible.

it’s a simple Jabra headset. Might work but it’d be painful.

worth a try maybe?

I’ve tried before. Not gonna do that again lol

I’m listening to ultima on jabra move

Is that bad?

Depends I suppose if it’s rendering ultrasonic or not. My work headset is a Jabra Link 260.
I know it isn’t doing ultrasonic because I put the headset right up to the mic of my iPhone while running Frequensee and playing Q ultra subs…no response even at full volume.

Makes sense since this headset is designed just for taking calls from crazy customers

EDIT: I deleted the post immediately above as I forgot to hit “reply” and couldn’t figure out how to edit it to being a reply.

Frequency Range: 20Hz to 20kHz. Should work for the ultra component, but I have no idea about the “flatness” of the output… I’m not an audio guy. :upside_down_face:

Feed me more details on this, flatness effect and al

Lots of people here on the forum are audiophiles, I’m not one of them though. I’d ask @SaintSovereign or @DarkPhilosopher

All hardware has some distortion due to interference or materials used, meaning that the source sounds don’t come out as intended. For example, the cover on the back of the speaker vibrates slightly on certain tones causing that tone to come out different.

Flat frequency response means that the sound that goes in comes out exactly the same. Using a highly sensitive microphone combined with special software you can measure the distortion and set your equalizer to achieve this.

Studio headsets are built to have as little distortion as possible out-of-the-box. Some gaming headsets do good as well.

As for the original question, I’d say it’s probably better than nothing. But still an undesirable situation. Then again, if lousy quality makes the subliminal sound like nails on a chalkboard to your subconscious, I can imagine headaches are a possibility.

I guess I’ll see tomorrow what happens. I figure I’ll listen to Elixir or Rebirth, since the job tends to brings up the worst of my mental baggage.

(due to the nature of how talking to customers on the phone fills me with all sorts of “negative” stuff, whereas supporting the same customers via email…and I’m fine.)

I assume that rebirth and/or elixir should help address that crap since it’s coming to the foreground in the moment.

Gotta do what you gotta do. It’s definitely not ideal and your results may be all over the place. That being said, if it’s the only way you can listen, go for it.

Grazie to Saint and Darkie for the responses.

I’m guessing air pods would work for ultima right

They should.

Depends on frequency response.

If this link is to be believed, they may not respond well at 15Khz or higher

I gave LibertineU V1 a listen on the work headset finally
felt like poop on that. so I definitely think that “Good enough” is not good enough in this case.

Felt very…purposeless…like “What’s the point, man?”

At first blush, I’d chalk this up to only getting the “Masked” portions of the sub since this headset can’t do the 15KHz or higher. I assume Saint and Fire would know better on that, but I don’t expect them to comment on it since that gets into the technical aspects.

I’m willing to experiment further, so I’ll try a different Ultima on this crap headset to see if I get the same effect. I’ll do either StarkU or ExecU and report back. Just not today lol

I’m using Tin T2’s right now and KZ ZSX, I hope these inexpensive but good value earbuds would be enough for the ultimas.

And are they? Your answer may decide me on purchasing a supercharger even though I don’t own high end headphones, lol
