This is just for me
Fuck outcomes, scores, and products. The right focus for me is PROJECTS.
In other words, for me, it makes sense to organize my journey in terms of the projects that I’m actively working on, and in terms of the projects that I’m able to be actively working on.
Proper Engagement with the Right Projects IS my primary result. My primary Metric.
I’m a Long-Gamer and so it makes sense for me to think and move like a long-gamer.
Taking fitness as a very simple metaphor:
The amount that I lift in my workout is not my focus. The content, the structure, and the stability of the workout is my focus.
As a long-gamer, I’ll eventually get to whatever number Joe Blow has arbitrarily decided is a good number.
Yay.
That’s not really the point.
The saying goes ‘Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day; teach him how to fish and he’ll eat forever’.
But for lots of people, if you want this principle to fly out the window all you have to do is raise the number of fish. ‘But surely things are different if you give him 5000 fish, right?’ Nope. Principle still stands.
It’s not about the fucking number. Numbers are always going to go up and down. That’s the nature of life on earth. What you want is to have a structure that can withstand, accommodate, and even integrate the ups and downs.
It would be better to have an 80 lb bench-press with a very robust and solid workout program, than to have a 280 lb bench-press but extremely low awareness of your program.
And for me this applies to subliminals.
The primary question for me is not ‘What did I get?’ It’s ‘With what am I engaged?’ ‘What am I connected to?’
I’ve always said, I’d rather be the janitor in Heaven, than the highest ruler in Hell. If you’re a janitor in Heaven, guess where you still are? And if you’re the highest ruler and winner in Hell, guess where you still are?
That metaphor, for me, is about Engagement. It’s about recognizing the VALUE of Engagement.
That’s the long-game.
