2400 years ago, Plato described in The Republic an ideal and just city-state, Kallipolis, a virtuous city embodying Wisdom, Courage, Justice, and Temperence.
A city of equal chances and harmony amongst its inhabitants, bringing the upmost joy as each citizen handles their work.
Until philosophers are kings, or the kings and princes of this world have the spirit and power of philosophy … cities will never have rest from their evils,—no, nor the human race, as I believe,—and then only will this our State have a possibility of life and behold the light of day.
In his dialectic, Plato purported that such a city would only be possible through the governance of a philosopher-king, of a person who loves the truth in each thing, a smart leader, reliable, simple, and just, drunk on wisdom from the study of the humanities.
A city of Sages, as would be later developed by the Stoics.
As this city had yet to rise, Chrysippus instructed that, wherever it is possible, a sage would need to participate in politics in order to advance the life of the citizens toward the ideal of a great and just city.
and that wherever it is not possible due to great injustice inflicted by a tyran, the sage should instead find alternate means to advance this ideal, such as for instance instructing their fellow citizens on the matter of politics during their free time. (otium)
Flash forward to nowadays.
Geopolitical tensions abound and it seems that the dream of an egalitarian ideal democratic city as long since died.
Where philosophe argued for a governance led by wisdom and care for the res publica, the commonwealth, contemporary politics now abound with all kinds of backhanded tactics in order to gather supporters and allies or cheat the system in the pursuit of personal power, using whatever loophole available to use the word of the law without the spirit wherever possible.
What I suggest, is a title that help one with the goals of:
- gaining wisdom and becoming more sage in the Stoic meaning of the term,
- dismantling conspiracies and lies while maintaining an impeccable public image (boosting media training),
- learning the legal and sociological intricacies of creating and maintaining a social movement, be it a party or a citizen assembly.
- boosting learning more on statecraft as well as the state aparatus and how to rise within
- manifest mentors that will help with getting in the world of politics,
- help with media literacy, andseeing beyond what a spokesperson is saying in order to find how to best use what they said and implied to push your program and goals.
- remove all fears and worries regarding public speaking and becoming a public personality.
- help clarify a vision of how we could help bringing about a more equal and more just democracy
- find ways to reach agreements between parties, not through compromises, but through mutually beneficial alliances that adresses the root instead of the symptoms.
- find ways to better translate your vision in the target audience’s language, in their linguistic ideology, using their words without distorting the core of what you say, so that it better reach them, their heart and mind.
