Yes it’s excellent advice (both regarding stack and custom) and even I have thought the same. Just so hard to get my mind to stick to a plan even though I want to. When I run a healing sub, I miss the fun of things like Khan, Libertine and Love Bomb. And when I run those, I miss productivity. It’s a big damned if you do, damned if you don’t kind of situation.

The way I see it is I have to be realistic with myself with what I’d be willing to do/stay on.
It reminds me of when I use to compete in Magic The Gathering competitively lol
You have 60 slots in the deck-16-20 have to be land-so that leaves 40-44 slots for actual design- to balance theme and fun, with competitive edge, with what would work best against other popular tournament decks was a challenge. You have sideboard -card’s specifically designed to deal with certain opponents decks-you could swap in after the first match.
I’m on DR journey right now-so that’s 1 slot
Emperor is my main Alpha/productivity sub- I merged with Primal and now Primal Seduction and PCC
to meet social and seduction needs -both in slot 2
I have a wealth custom and a paragon custom as sideboards.
Money wasn’t flowing and I lacked clarity on what was next-swapped in wealth custom- in a month I got clarity on what’s next for me financially and cleared some junk with EOG stage 1. I want to keep running it but honestly health and fitness are more important in the short term-so put that aside while I ride the wave it generated and swapping in Paragon custom and soon new Hero custom- to deal with healing and fitness.
I essentially have 1 long term trajectory I won’t move-in this case Emperor for a year and then DR through all 4 stages- and rotate the other stuff depending on what else is needed.
That way I get long term growth or short term versatility.
Next I’ll have Khan and Fitness/Health as my main drivers and rotate in wealth and creativity

Am glad to see that you have clarity on your plan and playlist. Am sure it will come to me too. Thanks a lot for the detailed but brief explanation of your stack evolution. Does help me with ideas too.
Will consider priorities first and the less urgent ones for later like you did (the funniest part for me isn’t that I don’t know it. The most challenging aspect is that “the heart wants what the heart wants” kind of thing).
Maybe I should run Emperor. I haven’t run it long enough. Possible that it will help me with self discipline and focus

I’m very impressed with myself that I’ve fought this for so long haha. My heart always wanted Khan- and am down to the finish line.
If I had to summarize I’d say it’s really about -what do you need now that you can’t live without and what do you need now so next month will be different
