What is an ESSENCE module?
Ever made a custom and thought - “hmm, I love this custom, but I sure would love to have a bit more of X title in it”?
And that is exactly what Essence is - not quite a module, not quite a core, but something in-between. Not as big as a core, not as small and granular as a module, an Essence module allows you to infuse your custom with the theme, aspect, idea and/or archetype of a major title, without overloading the custom or completely changing the whole functioning.
Think of it as grilling a delicious steak, and then using different marinades or seasonings to lightly alter the flavor profile of the steak - but fundamentally, a steak is a steak, be it Indian spices style, BBQ or simple, classic salt and pepper.
Rough guidelines:
- Use one or two Essence modules, maximum 3 if carefully selected and well thought through.
- You can use one that perfectly aligns with your modules to give it extra oomph.
- You can use one that is different from your modules to give it a different feeling and lightly alter its functioning.
- Don’t overload the custom with many Essence modules. You don’t want to mix 10 different seasonings - you’ll just get a mess.
- The limit of modules is still 20.
- For the sake of scripting size and complexity, Essence are on a range of approximately 1.5 to 3 modules worth. Remember that this also differs from person to person, as each one of us differently responds to different subliminal input - for one, an Essence module might be a 1.5, for another who has struggled with that area a 5.
