I have been running RM:UWX since it came out. Either in a custom or main title.
My writing as a whole has taken leaps and bounds. Even when I don’t want to write, I just sit at my computer pull up my file and I am taken in this current of research and script writing.
I have been able to take dry historical text and mold it into effective gripping scenes. My ability to describe the brutality of the past has drastically improved.
I still need work on scripting sex and romance themes, but the source material is pretty austere in regards to that.
I am decent when it comes to character motivations, but that’s more trying to pull that from the research than the writing itself.
This sub is a slow burn. It’s not in your face, but over hours of writting, you catch yourself occasionally writting lines and wondering how the hell you came up with that.
My customs always have an emphasis in storytelling so it could be that, but the way I have consumed media has drastically changed. While reading and watching TV and books, I have begun to deconstruct how they are telling the story, what type of prose are they using, when do they hold back. Another thing that I am improving on and runs over and over in my head is show, don’t tell when creating stories.
If they hammer that in the updated version how to show vs tell, that would be pretty awesome if they haven’t already.
My plot hooks also have improved pretty dramatically.
This sub took someone who never considered themselves a writer and struggled in storytelling, to an apprentice storyteller.
