Finally, Subliminal Club’s most popular sub has been converted to ZP
Super happy about this, so excited, can’t wait to start my first loop tomorrow and see what happens. Haven’t been able to go to the gym as much as usual due to a busy work schedule, but February’s gonna be awesome.
Oooh stoked for this. Just joined a new gym where some professional ufc fighters train. Don’t want to stop running emperor yet but I may have to replace r.i.c.h to give this a run.
Open a journal buddy, would love to see someone other than me track their progress on this sub.
man i wish i can train for martial arts, i love everything about it been listening to a lot of joe rogan recently
and his talk about BJJ, but man i cant afford injuries and head smacks, i want to practice martial arts without getting hit or injured, lol which seems not practical at all.
anyways the sub looks awesome
Why do you say that?
A big part of training for fighting is training to overcome that fear, it makes you into a stronger person mentally. It prepares you for the worst.
And also, you don’t immediately begin with contact. Martial arts is always about technique before anything else, and once you’re able to throw technique you have the option to start with contact. My gym’s well-known for being filled with savages and promotes a contact-heavy/sparring culture, but no one forces you to do it. It’s not pushed onto you, it’s ultimately your decision to see how far you want to go with it.
Maybe not ideal, but definitely more practical than not training at all. You have no idea how unequipped people are to fight, 99.9% of men can’t throw a real punch to save their lives. Even basic boxing training would allow you to defend yourself adequately in a dangerous scenario.
I’d definitely recommend everyone to try a fighting class of any discipline, even one class will help you immensely.
I trained Shotokan and TKD for 10 years (edit: 12, actually) Thai and BJJ for roughly five. No head injuries. You don’t have to spar hard all the time, or even a lot.
Then you’re one of the few that understand that you can take Shotokan and Thai to the streets but TKD is essentially BS in real life.
I remember when I first did some sparring and took my first direct by a heavy guy in the head ahhhhh…
Those were the good days lmfao the black vision I had for a few sec
@Budewr you know it really doesn’t hurt that much as it looks like I swear
Especially if he has gloves, but ofc the end goal is to not get hit
Don’t go head first and then at 50 question why you have parkinson so early lol
Sure, but TKD’s also the best striking base to start with IMO. The kicking dexterity you learn with TKD is a great foundation to go off of, especially for Muay Thai. I really wish I did TKD when I was younger specifically for that reason.
I 100% agree with this, it really doesn’t hurt as much as it looks, or how much you would think. The feeling is definitely surprising at first because we’re not used to trauma to the head, but it’s much easier to deal with the more hits you take.
It’s rare that you get legitimately hurt with a shot to the head, it’s only happened to me once so far and it was a risky move on my part, against a guy with miles of more experience on me who also admitted that he hit me far harder than he should have.
Honestly if I had to do it over again, I would start with good old boxing, then move to Thai or Kyokushin. Only when I got the punching and the kicking right that I would even touch BJJ.
Eh, I started with boxing and I feel like a big problem of mine is how I have a tendency to lean into my boxing too often. Whenever I spar against a good kicker they just fucking pepper me up with kicks 'cause I just want to jab them.
Personally, I think the learning curve to learning how to punch is much smaller than the learning curve for learning how to kick. That’s why I’d go TKD > boxing for a foundation.
Agreed on the BJJ part, tried grappling once and fuck did I hate it. It’s necessary to learn of course, but right now it’s just not for me.
its because i really dont want to face injuries hahha, i just dont to get injured, and martial arts is usually highly associated with high injury chances. i would say that simply i dont want to take that risk,
yes im sure it does, but i think theres much optimal ways to train for the worst and make me a stronger person rather than risk by training for martial arts and getting hit constantly knowing later maybe ill get hit in the head and its gonna cause me some trouble
yes man i want to learn at least basic self defense training at least, but i also really want to get into martial arts for the discpline and also it seems fun
is there a way that i can train and spar maybe lightly? or not get into it really li? like i dont want to get hit its not something that i fear rather that i would like to not go that route and take chances thats all
is there a martial art that is focused solely on grips? i think thats BJJ right? cause ive seen a fight of BJJ and lol it looks boring, bunch of gripping and choking no hitting in the face or punches, is that the style of BJJ?
nice man
i can spar lightly without like hits and punches? is that a thing in martial arts?
At the same time trying to hit the imaginate wall behind his head is so tempting
(tidbit for people who want to hit HARD)
Plus it’s just so so so cool to use your hands, if you’re not some really good kicker it can looks very lame even if you hit well lol, but a hit with your hand…damnnn…that’s manly
OFC I’m exagerating as it is my writing style so please anyone who kicks, you kill man
its definitely not about me getting hit, actually i dont mind, but what i mean is that if you spar regularly , and a part of your martial art practice is hitting someone in the head or kicking them in the head,
at some point you will face some issues, our bodies can take hits and kicks, but its not made for that, at some point if you get hit in the head regularly issues might pop up cause of the many times you got kicked in the head hahahah
thats my point, i dont mind actually getting hit maybe in my body but like head smacks? oh hell no
Honestly, getting injured is one of my biggest fears and worries. I understand exactly how you feel, so I can’t fault you for it.
Like I mentioned, beginner training features zero contact whatsoever. You won’t be getting hit when you start learning and if by chance you do, you’re probably at a gym filled with dicks and you should go train elsewhere anyway.
And I do want to ask, what do you think is a more optimal way of training “for the worst” to make you a stronger person? Because one thing I can say, I see big buff muscle heads at the gym get wrecked by skinnier guys on a regular basis. Hell, even I’ve done it before, and I’m sure @ksub and @SaintSovereign have too. The impact that technique has is quite understated by people who haven’t tried the sport themselves.
That’s what brought me to do it. I always watched fighting but I never had the heart to do it, until one day I decided fuck it and took the opportunity to do so. It was amazing, even better than I expected. Now, I can’t picture my life without it.
Absolutely. If I never wanted to spar and get hit, it would never happen to me. Sparring is a choice, it is not something you are forced to do. There are basic exercises you need to learn, technique is trained on bags and on pads. These do not require contact, you won’t get injured from that.
Just a sidenote, there’s a guy at my gym who’s been going there for 4 years, he’s excellent but he only spars very rarely. He can fuck up a whole bunch of us I bet, but he doesn’t want to and it’s because he doesn’t want to risk injury. No one judges him for it, and why should they?
Do you mean grappling? Because there are plenty of martial arts focused on grappling. BJJ, like you mentioned, is probably the safest. There’s judo too, as well as wrestling.
Oh yeah, 100% agreed. Feels awesome to hit someone with the hands, nothing for me feels better than landing a good jab on someone. Kicking a moving target on the other hand, can be tricky if you don’t land perfect; the exception to that is a leg kick, that shit feels awesome when you just whip it into someone’s thigh clean and then rebound back.
