I’m not an expert with customs yet, but I’ve run one successfully for a couple of cycles and grew immensely in that time, so I’m answering nevertheless.
I started with SC 10 months after you and waited only 8 months to build my first, so I believe, you’re good to go as well.
What are some indicators of how I can know that I am ready to build my first Custom?
You got epxerience with some major titles, know recon, and how you react on subs. Understanding the basics of conscious Guidance is a bonus point, but not absolutely necessary.
I think it’s important to have a clear goal when building a custom. It can be big, like 2 Cores, an NWE module and 17 modules, including some Synergy modules. As long it’s focused on one goal, you should be good.
What are the indicators of when, how and why I should switch over to a Custom from the main store titles?
For me it was that I wanted to experience some special features that I found in modules but not in one or two Major titles.
Is a Custom all about building a more targeteted approach with the modules than what my current main titles stack is doing?
At least for me that was the case. I wanted a sub that helped me to find a job in sales and prepared me for the specific tasks. So I included Jobseeker, Voice is the Law, Tale of the Dragon, Carpe Vitam etc.
Is a Custom more effective and efficient with the right modules inside of it than a main store title?
If a Custom is more targeted towards my personal goals, does it mean that I will also get better results?
I grew in all objectives I had with the custom.
Name embedding alone grants you a big advantage ober store titles.
And/or is the idea of making a Custom the addition of special concepts to my mix, concepts that are only available via the modules and not inside the main store titles?
That’s also a point. I could have gotten most of what I wanted from store titles. But I would have needed to run more titles than you. Also I don’t know which titles contain the modules I wanted/ where they were mined from. Or if the modules are q- store exclusive and aren’t available in a main store title
So putting GM with Voice is the Law and lineage in a custom was just the easiest way.
I hope the question is kind of clear the way I wrote it?
Thanks in advance for helping me understand.
I’d say they are clear enough.
There are some really interesting custom modules that I would love to have inside my stack, therefore strongly considering designing my very first Custom.
Just do it. As long as you can afford it without starving yourself or needing to get a loan.
I hope my answers can help you.
