I had a moment like this around 15 years ago – maybe, not quite sure but it’s been a long time. I was preparing for my employee review with my manager. Before every review, I would calculate just how much money I had made for the company so I could walk in with a solid number to counteract any nonsense the corporate world wanted to throw at me.
I would also update my resume with the amount of money I had made for companies collectively across my career. And on that day, I looked at the amount and across my entire life, I had been responsible for something $50 million for various companies across my career, while I was making something like $100k.
And it just hit me. “WTF am I doing, running around bragging about how much money I made for someone else, a company who is most certaintly about to try to gaslight me (in the employee review) into thinking I’m not doing enough. Why am I not trying to do this for myself?”
I love this. If you actually pull it off (and I believe you can), hit us up. I’m looking to expand my own philanthropic efforts over the next few years.
