L-Theanine, don’t confuse it with Thiamine, which sounds like it. Thiamine is one of the B Vitamins.
L-theanine is one of the things that gives Green tea/matcha its “super-powers,” which is also present in varying degrees in other herbal teas. It’s responsible for that zen-like calming effect that you’d feel from Green teas.
One of the main benefits is as a cognitive enhancer through many direct and indirect mechanism, such as improved sleep, stress relief, reduction of anxiety, improved focus and concentration. Especially when combined with Coffee or caffeine.
This amino acid helps in and would even prevent, depending on dose ratio, the side effects of stimulations from caffeine, such as anxiety and jitters. It dampens the crashing effects from caffeine, which grants it a perfectly synergistic effects. The combo of caffeine + theanine is often found in supplements related to the promotion of focus and mental clarity. The combo could be lifted to new heights with other ingredients, but it also could come with potential down sides and would delve into the realm of experimentation, as no two brains are assimilated alike.
Also works as an anti oxidant, if you’re into that. I am personally against oxidation in general, but that’s just me.
Theanine is one of the main culprits of why green tea > coffee.
As for Glutamine, I mainly use it when bulking, as it reduces inflammation and load on the guts. See, it plays a role in repairing and regenerating the gut lining, which is a godsend to guts with IBD or one’s with leaky syndrome.
It is also touted as a protein synthesizer and size gainer. Also plays a role in cognitive enhancements through memory and learning functions, as its a Glutamate precursor.
Personally, and from what I’ve seen others experience; unless you are in a beast mode athleticism, meaning you need all the damn fuel to rule and dominate with your performance, then don’t waste your money on it for the performance enhancing angle. You get enough of it from a normal balanced diet.
Digestion wise? Yeah, it’s a must. I’ve witnessed incredible effects and read about people with IBD finally feeling relief. Especially with combined with Gelatin.
NAC has a wide range of effects:
Cognitive Enhancement, liver protection, though not as strong as TUDCA, that thing is insanely good at lowering liver values that it used in treating alcohol damage. NAC also has healing effects on the respiratory tract, which makes it alluring as well.
Finally, and the best effect on its profile is the powerful antioxidations effects that it hold. NAC is a precursor to Glutathione, which is now gaining attention specifically for its rejuvenating effects, internally and thus externally (skin). Glutathione plays a crucial role in protecting the cells and tissues against toxins and those damn radicals and their nonsense. NAC helps replenish that Glutathione supply in the liver.
As beneficial as standalone Glutathione is, it is not cheap, especially when you realize that the best bang for your butt is the injectable form.
