A new term is shaking up the way we think about personality: “otrovert.”
Coined by psychiatrist Dr. Rami Kaminski, it describes people who don’t fit neatly into introvert or extrovert boxes—they exist somewhere entirely different.
Unlike introverts, who recharge alone, or extroverts, who recharge with others, otroverts energize themselves by thinking their own thoughts. They don’t feel tethered to trends, groups, or social expectations. They’re independent, curious observers and free thinkers.
Otroverts are often warm, witty, and engaging—but they usually connect deeply with only a select few. They don’t chase popularity or validation and favor meaningful one-on-one conversations over large gatherings.
Some discover they’re otroverts later in life. Others only realize it when a friend, partner, or article finally gives a name to the way they’ve always felt.
