Can Q subs be converted into lossless formats?

All my audios are lossless so subclub sticks out like a sore thumb. Will it lose quality or effects if I convert them to lossless?

On a related note, quality is still the same if I lower the (masked) volume through negative gain?

They wouldn’t likely lose any quality, but they wouldn’t gain any quality either. The other question is best answered by @SaintSovereign or @Fire

Converting an Mp3 file to a lossless file wont get you any improvement in quality nor will it decrease it. The only thing it will do is make your file size larger.
I believe is safe to do it.

The file has to be encoded in a lossless format on creation in order to have an impact. (Wav -> FLAC)

I have no idea if subs will benefit from being encoded in lossless format from the beginning, but I would like it if theres some improvement. Maybe Ultimas?

@Major What real benefits are there to convert it?

To convert from mp3 to lossless? None.

@anon2351792 That is my point.
@Major I say spend your time to listen to it instead. After all it is the format it was meant to be in.

What they said. It’s safe to go from Lossy to Lossless, but don’t go the other way.

As for if there are benefits, it has been discussed before and determined that if the MP3 bitrate is high enough it will contain the full dynamic range of a sub. And yes, Ultimas may benefit from Lossless. Possibly.

Does amplify change the quality/efficiency of subs? Since Q subs are too loud for me even at low volume, I am thinking -10db, but I wanna make sure the subs data won’t be affected.

Depends on the method used. You’ll want to stay away from altering the waveform itself. I’ve used replay-tags to balance out the volume between tracks in an entire playlist, but not all players support it.
