This morning, before I went to bed was loop 3 of my stack (technically loop 2 with the new stack). I must say, PEACE is something special, not to knock Summertime because it’s special in its own way. But PEACE takes the cake. I see PEACE in my stack for most likely the entire year next year, but we’ll see.
[I go into some detail about using this stack for now and the possible future]
Summary
EOG1 is a keeper and I’m really going to have to work this I can tell. I bumped up to 1 min with the stack (each title) and I think this is where the stack will stay for a bit. There is a lot to EOG1 and there is a lot of financial trauma, and very bad financial programming in my mind. However, PEACE is helping me to keep it from being overwhelming. I’m thinking that’s what happened when I ran EOG1 previously.
I had one hell of a dream last night (well this morning, but MY “night”. Graveyard can be a mind f*k for most people. I’m cool with it). I had a dream that I was a young boy (felt like 9 or 10 years old) and I went with a friend to his house (made up in this dream, no one I actually knew in real life). We wanted to go on a wilderness hike (something I did a bit as a kid) and his father, who was a large man like my first father, said no, very sternly.
In my real childhood that would have been followed by how stupid I was repeatedly in various ways for the next couple of minutes. This boy’s father was stern but then got down to his level and spoke WITH him and explained why he said no, what he was worried about and let the boy respond. LIKE A HEALTHY FATHER would and should.
The father was the father, but the boy was his son and the father treated him with respect and love and made it very clear that he loved and respected his son. And there was CONVERSATION between the two. Then the father spoke with me, identically and he let me know that he respected me. It was a very healing experience.
I have to read through PEACE again, but I felt that this was PEACE helping me sort through pain and trauma from my childhood. You don’t just magically listen to PEACE and become peaceful. You work through and remove blockages that are keeping you from being peaceful.
Look, this isn’t all about becoming a R.I.C.H. Trader. It’s about having a life. Having a good life in and outside of trading. Trading and wealth are the vehicles that help bring this to fruition.
Another thing, are the markets my “father”? Do I subconsciously think the markets are being stern, unloving, going out of their way to make my life miserable? The mind is very interesting and I’m starting to think there is more to this avenue of thinking so I’m going to be working on this aspect also for a bit.
Another thing I’m still doing is just watching my charts sped up. I have another few days of this. BTW, I watch the charts until I start to feel my mind getting too involved and especially if the negative thinking pops up. Then I stop. This is teaching me detachment.
I’m currently developing a system to really work through things. It’s a modified system using an NLP (aka Tony Robbins) technique called a pattern interrupt. If I remember right, I’m going to look this up, I think Tony calls it his “swoosh” technique. Or that might have been someone else.
Anyway, it’s a critical step. You have to stop your mind instantly in order to interrupt this pattern. You do this by getting out of your chair (in this case I’m at my trading desk) and clapping your hands, snapping your fingers, etc (something physical) and then yell “STOP”. I can’t because live in an apartment with very thin walls, but I can do this in my mind.
This is where a particular book I’m currently reading is wrong though. The book goes on to explain how you build new neural pathways that eventually overrides the old. That is outdated BS and proven false. 12 step programs do this and that is why people “fall off the wagon”.
You’re not going to overpower millions of years of evolution. The primitive brain helped us survive a very dangerous world. It just overreacts to the markets, life, social media, etc. The trick is to understand this and to use how the primitive brain works to your advantage. This is where Memory Reconsolidation comes in.
To keep it simple, and trust me, it’s more nuanced than this and I’m not an expert, but you trigger the old way of thinking. You interrupt (in this case use the Pattern Interrupt technique) keep the old mode of thinking there for a brief second and replace with how you WANT to be or respond. You repeat this multiple times. You put more emphasis on the new and then envision yourself acting the NEW way when you get triggered. The trick is to pour on the emotions. The brain responds to EMOTIONS more than just visual or audible.
The huge difference with this is that you are NOT building new pathways. The brain will ALWAYS follow the path of least resistance. The old worn out “superhighway” will always be the easier route and this is why people “fall off the wagon” on whatever they are trying to fix, or heal. You are REPLACING the vehicle on that super highway so to speak, not the highway itself. Focus on changing the vehicle not building a “new highway” (new neural pathways). Use what’s already there because the mind always does.
How do you know it’s worked (and by the way, you may have to do this same thing multiple times over days depending on what your working on), anyway you’ll know it works when you use identical triggers but the new behaviour is there instead.
[I go into more detail and backstory about Memory Reconsolidation if you’re interested]
Summary
Another way to try to explain this is that let’s say you get triggered and it triggers “I’m stupid”. Your mind (everybody’s mind works identically) goes to the “Stupid file” and it finds “proof” that you’re stupid. You don’t try to replace the pathway (the trigger or the “highway”) you replace what’s in the file marked “stupid”. Instead of stupid it finds “proof” that you are highly intelligent instead (for this example). It literally collapses that part of the system and essentially says, there’s no stupid here, this dude is super smart. ERROR! False alarm, move on. And it works. Once it’s done correctly it is permanent.
Before (the outdated way) everybody was trying to replace the trigger, or the “highway”. The primitive mind is powerful but also simple. You’re never going to “overpower” it with will and force. But it’s also simple and there somehow was a program in there that allows us to override the system. It was a failsafe system and it makes you wonder how the heck it was “programmed” in there and why we haven’t known about this until “recently”. It’s actually been known for over 30 years but the psychiatry field is very slow to accept new ideas. In some ways that’s good, but in other ways it’s not.
I’m working on my “reprogramming” technique more to get the bugs worked out. But that’s how I’ll be working through things. The subliminals will continue to do their part but we still have to put in effort.
Along with the trading aspect (for now the sped up charts) I’m working through various financial issues from my childhood. Both of my fathers had sudden loss of jobs because of the economy and various things I heard growing up that programmed me for scarcity thinking.
I’m busy, but I’ll get there. BTW, we never really “get there”. It’s hardwired into our brain. BTW Social Media and advertising uses this knowledge against us. It’s our job to learn that knowledge and leverage it for the kind of lives we want to live. Enrich OUR lives, not their bottom line.
This is getting fun.
