You know, I’ve been thinking about something in relation to the whole ‘anti-recon’ debate, and it came to me as an image. Have you seen the movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse? The main character keeps struggling (internally) to become the new Spider-Man. He keeps asking things like, ‘When will I know I’m ready?’ And the other Spider respond, ‘You don’t. It’s a leap of faith.’
Personally, I believe that recon, for me, has a lot to do with that place — the place of leaving the known behind and really taking that leap of faith into the unknown.
I mean, in the sense of letting go of the identity, the structures of that old version of yourself, and truly opening up to the new — a new that can be accessed and held without so much struggle, you know?
I don’t know… I think of a script that takes that into account: the human fear of facing the unknown, of accessing something greater, of leaving behind what’s ‘normal’ in order to become the ‘super’ — but not in a forceful way. In a gentle way.
Like that divine hand that holds the Being and softly guides it to a new place. That’s another image that comes to my mind.
