Two questions (StarkQ. Depression.)

Check out the books Nutrient Power by Dr. William Walsh, and Stress Less, Accomplish More by Emily Fletcher.

Nutrient Power looks at why psych meds work well for some people and have horrible side effects for others (a common reason for avoiding medical assistance for depression) and talks about nutrient therapy for addressing the upstream causes.

Stress Less, Accomplish More is hands down the easiest meditation practice I’ve ever tried, and it’s been the single biggest contributing factor to calming me down… prior to adding Z-Technique Meditation I could barely sit still long enough to get through a single hour long sub.

Game changers… and they’d pair exceptionally well with subs like Regeneration and Rebirth. Elixir too.

You might also want to consider a good gut probiotic, one of my friends runs an organization called The Gut Institute and she talks a lot about how so much of what goes on in the brain (re: neurochemistry) has origins, or at least triggers, in the gut. Rebalancing the gut microbiome can have very beneficial effects on mood, thought clarity, etc.

Unfortunately, I’m unsure whether Growth Through Pain is present in Emperor. Honestly, I’d say so but don’t take that as a fact.

Depression is a beast of an issue. It can be hard to pinpoint the cause. As great as the subs here are, I wouldn’t depend on it for overcoming depression. Two reasons. One, when you’re deep in the hole of depression your mind rejects a lot, you’re not thinking clearly, I heard a description of depression that basically said it was a very narrow tunnel vision. With that comes a decreased likelihood to “see” what you need to do to get better. Two, if you don’t get some form of professional help and the subs don’t do what you expect them to do, that can throw you into an even worse depression.

I’m not saying the subs have no effect on depression. What I mean is don’t put all your eggs in one basket. I say this from experience. I went the self help/self healing route all my life and it ended up with a lot of pain and frustration I could have saved myself. Some things really are too big to handle on your own.

Can I ask why you don’t want to see a professional?

Get support and professional help. Whether its endogenous, cognitive, or environmentally linked
you will benefit from some professional support and then you can add your own development, with subs, and other things on top of that.

I had a period where I had to go to therapy and take-anti depressants for a while-to get back on my feet.

How about Stark, it must be in there. Painful situations and experiences every other three days or so. It came in waves.

Actually you are not wrong about depression prevents sub results and the less sub results the more hopeless and depressed I become. Of all the time I’ve been using subs, most of them have minimal effects on me.

Money is part of the reason I don’t seek a professional. Other factors are less clear defined. I did volunteer works in psych field as well as was friends with those pre-docs so I kinda saw how sausage gets made; since I know them and they know me and where I am is a small town, if I do seek help it’s not gonna be as private as my liking. Lastly deep down I don’t see the point of dealing with depression in a medical setting since they are dealing with the symptoms not causes, and I want very much ridding the roots.

Therapists are definitely not magicians (well, except for the ones who are). They’re fallible humans. But, as a profession, they’ve just paid more systematic attention to these things than, say, stock brokers or interior decorators. You’re smart to continue respecting your judgment. On the other hand, there are people you can learn from or who you can use as references.

If depression is literally what you’re working on, one resource that has helped a lot of people is David Burns The Feeling Good Handbook. I haven’t used it myself, but it’s a well-known resource with a good track record. If you’ve worked with therapists, you’ve likely already come across it.

I agree with @Fractal_Explorer that self-help is not the ideal strategy when dealing with serious issues/conditions. If you do insist on taking a self-help approach, though, make sure that you’re including some of the best and most proven self-help resources you can find.

One other point, particularly in this current climate, it’s getting easier to find someone (and even someone affordable) from outside of your geographical area for online sessions. That could be worth checking out?

Whatever you do decide (and it is definitely your own decision), I wish you increasing wellbeing that exceeds all of your expectations.

Meant to point out as well, some research shows that over a 5 to 8 week period, aerobic exercise (30 minutes a session, 3 to 5 times a week) can begin to compete with SSRIs and other medicines with regard to anti-depressant effects. If you’re able to find a safe, sustainable way to get out there (or in there) and raise your heart rate for 30 minutes regularly, it can make a difference.
